Road Glide specific GPS (smart phone, etc) Mount
« on: March 17, 2011, 12:27:28 AM »

Anyone ever heard of Iron Aces Speed Shop?  Saw a post on the Road Glide.org board and checked out the thread, and I was sold. I really don't like having my GPS on the handlebar mount... when I take pics of my bike, the mount, with or without GPS just draws my eye and takes away from the shot. So when I saw there was another option, I did some more reading, and it seems like a great option, so I pulled the trigger and ordered one this morning!

Here's a pic from their FB page of the HD branded Zumo 660

You can do smart phones too!

It shipped this morning, will be sure and post up pics as soon I get in and on!!! (there are pics on their website, and they do have a Facebook page as well).

Crusty, It looks good.  Let us know what you think when you get it mounted.  Thanks in advance.

X2. Looks like the right place for it as opposed to the handlebar mount.

I have been looking for something like that. i was thinking about attaching the Ram mount ball in that location.  Only question or concern I have is the lack on up and down adjustability.  depending on your height and sun position, sometimes some slight movement is needed.

My opinion only,,, The handlebar mount (2011 CVO Road Glide type) is actually pretty handy. You don't have to take your hand very far from the grip to program, and whether it is a good idea or not, we all do hunt resturants, gas etc going down the road. I like the looks of this new mount so I went out to the bike and tried holding my 660 up there and it is just not comfortable at all to program sitting still, so maybe it would be safer in the long run as you wouldn't be messing with it as much, but I think I will keep my handlebar mount. Just my opinion.

Crusty let me know how you like the mount. I put the Helig bars on mine and I really have limited options. One of these days I'm going to sell all the crap I've bought trying to fix this. I have 4 or 5 mounts laying around.

I got the Iron Aces mount om my 09 RG SE

Location is perfect, & I can see my gauges & radio ...

Easy to play my Garmin GPS - MP3 ...

This mount can take most any devise, I have a Garmin Cradle, some people use their IPhone ... you supply the final devise mount ...

Unit looks good mounted on the top of the gauges ... but I think the bike looks better without ... but I'm keeping it ...

easy to mount, too ... good directions ....

I hard wired mine & also have the aux plugged into the back of my HK (by Iron Cross Audio) - nearly wireless ...

Way better than my old lower handle bar ball/cradle mount

The cradle I have allows my Garmin to be easily removed as well ... though I leave it there.

Definitely lots of positive feedback on the other board... I don't think it is a huge streatch to mess with the radio, so plugging stuff in to the GPS shouldn't be a big deal. Will be glad to clean up the handlebars and get rid of the wiring flaoting out there in the open!

Thanks Charlie, can we get a few photos when you get a minute? I would like to see a few on the bike and maybe remove the unit as well. I've still got one of the Techmounts that locks on. I wonder if I could make it work. Close up of how the mount connects!

The 4 holes combined with the long slot should line up with almost any mounting system out there. I believe he was initially designing it for the Zumo, but when folks started asking about other options, he expanded the design to fit a larger variety of devices. I know there are some pics ont he website of different stuff. I'm pretty certain your techmount, having the "standard" 4 hole set-up should work just fine.

Not sure if I'll get any heat for cross posting from another board, but there are lots of pics and discussions here:

Here's the thread that walked through the initial design tweaks based on user input.
