Taller bars on ULTRA with dash mounted GPS
« on: September 13, 2012, 06:25:30 PM »

Has anyone put taller bars (12 inch -14 inch) on the ultra with the dash mounted gps? Im trading my 09 for a 13 and cannot go back to stock bars, but the gps looks like it is in the way. My bars now are only about one inch from the dash. I believe ive got 13 inch bagger apes on my 09 with the gps mounted on the bars and love the higher bars. I ordered 12 inch Yaffe monkey bars and im afraid it will not work. Please let me know if anyone has done this.

I'm not sure of the dimensions, but Klock "Ergo Up" bars cleared fine on my '09 FLHX.  I'm pretty sure they're shorter than the HD bagger apes, but I don't  think it's by much.

potlucky,
Installed the 12" Yaffee Monkey Bars on my 11.5. No issue with the dash mounted GPS except the bars block the view of the left 1/4 of the screen.

I installed Wild Ones 575, 2 inches taller and 2 inches closer to you, very comfortable and doesn't block anything on my 2012.

That sounds very incouraging. Could you post a pic? My Harley shop said the bars would have to be pulled back so far they would be uncomfortable and look pretty ridiculous. I can live with the left side being blocked, what i cant live with is the stock bars.

I have 16" Santee bagger bars on my 11.5 ultra, they clear the gps but block the left side of the screen. I made a small aluminum plate with four holes to move the gps mount to the right and now the screen is unobstructed.

The bar is about 3/4" from the gps unit. Enough room to attach and remove the unit.

Guess I'd need to try out a bike that has ape hangers. The stock bars seem to work well for me but that doesn't mean that taller bars wouldn't fit me better. I like the look of the 575's but need to check them out on a bike.

Here is a picture of mine with the 575's on, if you can look past the detailers  ;D
