Top Notch, Skilled Powder Coating Company?
« on: January 11, 2019, 04:56:09 PM »

Hey all -

Really wanting a set of PM Virtue wheels in a contrast cut for the new Shark.
Problem is I don't want to deal with polishing the exposed aluminum parts and taking care of the black anodized parts.

That being said - anyone know of an extremely skilled powder coater that can take a chrome set of wheels, tape off the chrome in the same pattern, scuff the remaining surface and powder coat it hi-gloss black?

Lemme know and I'll give them a shout.

Had a wheel refinished by Alloy Wheel Repair 205-451-7777, just south of Birmingham, AL, they put a very thick clear coat over the entire wheel and baked it on so the aluminum will never corrode.  Just wash it like a regular wheel no polishing necessary.  They may be able to just clear coat and bake your wheel so you wouldn’t need to have it PC’d, give em a call.

Well, I was going to attach a pic but my usual means of re-sizing it to attach is not working...if you want to see it pm me your email and I will send the original sized pic.

Wheel finish looks good ... I'll give them a call.

One of the issues is that the "Virtue" wheel is only available in "Platinum" finish ... So the aluminum portion is highly polished.
Doubt it could be painted or coated without scuffing it first as there is nothing on the surface to hold the finish?

I’m not sure about their process on something like that but I know the clear they used on mine acts like a powdercoat in that when it’s baked it all melts together and forms a solid coat over the entire wheel.  My aluminum was bad corroded and pitted but when I got it back it looked better than a new wheel.  Good luck with whatever direction you take and post some pics when you get it finished.
