Chrome fork lowers
« on: February 03, 2014, 01:10:00 AM »

Hi there

Can anyone tell me please:

Are the fork lowers on a CVO SG coated with something as in some type of very thinly sprayed clear coat?? I've got a few marks on one of the lowers that you can see if the light is on the chrome at a certain angle. I don't want to go gung ho on removing them with Purple or any thing else until I get responses.

Cheers

Hi there

What do most folks here swear by on chrome? I realise that you only clean chrome but some products work better than others. :)

Hi there

I'm not to sure about superfine steel wool. The surface of the chrome is not tarnished or oxidized but more micro scratches and swirls that appear to be "under" the chrome hence my question on clear coat.
I'd like to know if there is any product cream or wax that folks use that worked for them.

Cheers

Chrome fork lowers are not coated with anything (As opposed to the brushed aluminum fork lowers on non-CVOs.  These have a clear coating).  If you have some scratches, blemishes, etc on the chrome, try Turtle Wax chrome polish.  It's the most aggressive chrome polish I've found.  However, I've never found any chrome polish that removed a scratch or blemish.

Any scratches or "rag marks" that I have put on chrome seem to be permanent  :-X  Once I got too aggressive trying to remove a scratch from chrome and ended up removing the thin chrome plating down to the nickle plate.  If if really is a scratch or rag mark live with it.  You are the only one that knows it's there.
