All Finished Up and Ready to Go!!!
« on: March 13, 2008, 06:43:10 PM »

Willie put it best when he said "On the Road Again. I just can't wait to get on the road again." That's just how I feel. After almost Four long months, the bike is all put back together and ready to go. I'm really pleased with the way it all came together and I'd like to share a few quick photos I took after coming back from my shake-down putt.

That's gorgeous Chief. Absolutely inspiring in knowing the tale of the rebuild and seeing the finished product. I am sure that the pics don't do it justice and it is 10 times as good to see in person. Thanks for sharing it with us

Thanks Ernie. It stands out a lot more than I thought it would. It makes a difference. It's not a perfect match in color, but with all of the other shades of red going on, it works out real well.

Not having done all the work can't speak fairly of course.  From the bleacher seats, however, it looks worth any effort it might have taken to get there.  Best EGlide I have ever seen.

Chuck, very, very nice! :2vrolijk_21:  For a guy who'd never seen the bike in one piece before, your painter really nailed it!  That's a finished product you can take great pride in, especially from the standpoint of you completing the final assembly all by yourself!  My hat's off to you! :drink:

Chuck, very, very nice! :2vrolijk_21:  For a guy who'd never seen the bike in one piece before, your painter really nailed it!  That's a finished product you can take great pride in, especially from the standpoint of you completing the final assembly all by yourself!  My hat's off to you! :drink:

Thanks Brian. I think when I show it to him he'll be quite pleased with what he pulled off. :2vrolijk_21:

Ain't that the truth? I've got to put in a call today to see what's up. You spied it in the paint booth almost three weeks ago. I thought I was going to hear from them this week, now that they're all back from Daytona.

Absolutely Fantastic and Over the Top Gorgeous.  Well Done!  Congratulations on owning the most stunning CVO Harley.  Glad to know you. When you are rich and famous some day, remember the poor folk you met here.   :coolblue: :cherry:

You could go into your own business.  Sorry you have not had your bike running for what seems like such a long time, but four months over the winter months to get this result, I am sure you are very happy.

Spec effin tackular Chief!  I love the little jester stripe left on the fairing under the other stuff.  The frame was worth the effort, it really rounds off the bike.  Fine job, you should be proud of your work.

You say the nicest things Candy. Thank you very much.

I don't think I could ever do that for a living. Too many headaches with vendors and all the other stuff that can, and will, go wrong. I'm glad I did it, but even happier that I'm done. Now it's time to enjoy it.

You wouldn't want to trade would ya?

That is beautiful,  it looks soooo clean with the painted frame.  That is the best looking bagger I've seen!  Call one the biker mags and/or send in a pic to them, it's definitely a cover bike for sure!

Chuck,

The bike looks absolutely AWESOME!

I hope to see it in person someday.

LRebel

Hey LRebel, thanks so much. I think I'll be enjoying it for a long time. Now, all I have to do is get the motor up to par.

Chief, I got to tell ya, that's awsome. As a guy that doesn't say a lot around here, this build made me want to comment. When I finish a project of any kind, I usually like to have a beer or two and admire my work, but this project would have me consuming a LOT of beer.   ::)

Enjoy and congratulations,   :2vrolijk_21:

Robert

Robert, based on the beerometer, I guess that's a good thing. I just don't drink like I used to, but it was worth a couple. Although a friend did point out that I also forgot the front axle covers as well as the headlight trim.

Maybe I started drinking a bit too early. ;)

I'll get those fixed up and take some more pictures tomorrow after the tornados are through around here today.

Ah Cheif,
You wouldn't want to trade would ya?

That is beautiful,  it looks soooo clean with the painted frame.  That is the best looking bagger I've seen!  Call one the biker mags and/or send in a pic to them, it's definitely a cover bike for sure!

Mike thanks so much. I haven't really thought too much about it, but maybe Chris Maida should get a note with pic attached. :2vrolijk_21:

Thank you sir. I've got the Corbin Daul Tour on there now, but it's just crying for a solo saddle to uncover the rear fender graphics.  :2vrolijk_21:

It feels like I put in new dilithium crystals. Now she'll do warp 9.8. :huepfenlol2:

I took off the seat today for some wiring stuff and noticed that the seat bumpers compressed the paint on the rear fender where they contacted it. This was a concern as the paint hasn't totally cured out 100%. I've been told it may take quite a while since there is so much build, another concern of mine, and only the top layer (clear) is catalyzed while all of the other multiple layers are reduced, which means they have to dry instead of cure.

If I wasn't going to do another seat it wouldn't be a problem, but now if the bumper marks don't come up, when I put a solo on it, I'll have these four tell-tale bumper donuts compressed into the paint.

Damn custom work. Stock is so much easier.

Ask your painter what you can do to help the curing process along Chief. Seems to me there's a few tricks of the trade I've heard along the way, but I don't want to put out bad info so as I said, ask your painter

Number one is time, Number two is UV exposure. I put the bike out on the back slab all day yeterday and all day today. I also put a small heater blowing across the back fender which helped the donut lift out completely. I think it will just take time with all of the build that is there. I just hope it doesn't get mucked up while at CHL if it isn't cured by then.

I'll be setting it outside in the sun as often as possible.

Years ago when I had my first custom paint done, the painter called me and said it was all done, come check it out.
When I got to the shop he told me it was out back - 'settin in the sun'.
When we went out to look at it he almost dropped, all the paint had "pulled" and was very screwed up.

We brought it inside and he told me he would see me next week.

Hung around for a while, had a  :drink: :beerchug: or 2 and after several hours the paint looked it does in the second picture.
It actually looked like the snake had real snakeskin, it was cool and I kept it that way.

Chief,

As you have gotten many complements with your bike from the forum here (job well done I must say), what is your next step other than ride the heck out of your bike?

Gonna, wanta do another bike project like yours again?

I plan to visit Atlanta, (got family there near 85 and 285) near last part of August. Me and 2 other riding buddies plan to ride cross country from S.F. to Atlanta and back. I hope to see your bike while I am there visiting.

Dave,

Thanks for the compliments. To answer your first question, I'm looking forward to getting onto other items on the long list of projects that I have been ignoring for far too long. No more bike projects for a long while. This one took a good bit of time and money. Luckily the insurance company supplied the money and all I had to do was supply the time.

Shoot me a msg when you're coming to town as I'm sure you and your buddies will have plenty of new stories about the first half of your journey.
