That first pic is called Black Candy Crimson and Charoal Slate.  The last one is called Autumn Haze and Vivid Black.  Those (to my particular tastes) look good.  The first one looks really good.

The other one, however, is Black Emerald and Majestic Green Pearl.  It kind of looks like what happens when my little niece sneezes and blows green stuff out her nose.  Perhaps it will be striking in real life when the sun shines on it  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

So with everything on the list, as impressive as they want it to be, it's still just a continuation of the SEEG with the addition of the Ultra's communications and audio. Different wheels (I like the 05 wheels better).  Different paint scheme of course.  I didn't notice if the tour pak was detachable as the bike comes "out of the box."  With all the Ultra gear on it I guess it might not be?

A picture of the dash on the site shows an air temp gauge.  And there's no oil temp gauge offered among the various new accessory parts.

Specs say air temp.  Wonder if it has the new 50amp charging system the other touring bikes get.  They also say it has more room for rider and passenger.   Am bummed that it doesn't have a 6 speed though.

Hey, if I'm reading the spec's correctly they at least did stop using that stupid oil line with the rubber coupler on it  [smiley=beerchug.gif]

Congratulations Carl.  That makes you the first "Ultra Member"  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] .  Guess until the bikes come in you'll have to be a CVO In Waiting (CVOiW).

All this begs the really big question though.  Which paint scheme are you going to order?  Or will you just take whatever is going to be the first one (even if it the green one!)?

Read that too Jerry.  In the accessory section the amp is described as being for a fixed tour pak only.  So no detachable hardware for the new CVO Glide.

Of course recognize that by the time they get connections for rear speakers, rear mounted amplifier, rear lights, and the light inside the tour pak that more than a small handfull of wire is going to live back there along with having to employ a few connectors.  But I still like being able to remove the tour paks.  It's nice being able to quickly throw on the big one for long trips, the chopped one for shorter stuff, or remove it all and just use the passenger back rest for an overall different look.  The flexibility adds to the enjoyment of the bike.

What is up with that ugly leather tourpak? Couldn't they get tomahawk to paint a real one? And the colors are butt ugly( except perhaps the black and grey).

Looks like I won't be trading for the next two years. Maybe they'll do a Road Glide again in 2008.

Whoa, wait a minute!

Hub may not be the "first Ultra member".  I'm sure there are other members on a list.  In fact, I know one personally.  He rides an O/B 04 SEEG and an 03 Ultra! [smiley=biggthumpup.gif]

OK 04, that was terribly presumptuous and I'm sorry  [smiley=beerchug.gif]

We should wait, of course, and make the coronation of the first "Ultra Member" dependent on the first person getting a bike under butt.  Everyone else will just be Pretenders to the (leather) Throne.

So, who will be the first Ultra Member ?

Twolane,
I don't think the tour pack will be detachable since this bike has an amp.  If it's the same amp that comes with the Enhanced Sound System for the 03 Ultra, it mounts under the tour pack.

I think you're right 04.  We were bouncing that around in another thread too and I ended up reading the description and fitment information for the amp that's posted in the accessory section of HD's website.  Pretty specific there about fixed tour pak only.  To make it detachable they'd have to have some exposed connector someplace and you can understand not wanting to do that on the way to an amp.

Whoa, wait a minute!

Hub may not be the "first Ultra member".  I'm sure there are other members on a list.  In fact, I know one personally.  He rides an O/B 04 SEEG and an 03 Ultra! [smiley=biggthumpup.gif]

Probably so Brian.  But it makes for a funny thought to picture the thing going through production wiht one end just flopping in the breeze  [smiley=7.gif] .

Actually, come to think of it, the line with the rubber sleeve has two chrome fittings.  It's just got that stupid piece of rubber hose connecting the two separate ends.

well  i guess i'm different when i first looked at the new bikes my first choice would have been the green. just wish it would have been a little darker. I think harleys best color was the sunglow jade. anyway due to finances I will be keepin my blue/black just wish it didn't look purple in sunlight (i hate purple) had a friend at work ask me to go to south carolina for black bike week and had to pass due to the forecast being for clear skies. would not want to show up with a purple bike.

With the new Ultra what will become of the black bike Hubbard?  From everything you've written it seems you've had that bike a long time.  Probably as much a member of the family as most members of the family.  So will it get a humble retirement with friendly rides to dinner every once in awhile or will it be passed on to some new owner?

Lets see

New Ultra, 32k plus add ons = 35k out the door

Take 120" and tranny out of led sled and install in Ultra
Take 103" and tranny out of Ultra and install in led sled
Make it all work

Hmmmmmmmm maybe  4k

35k + 4k = 39k

Trade in 2002 led sled w/103, value maybe, 17k

39k - 17k = 22k

06 CVO Ultra w/120 Zippers for 22k,,,,,,, not to bad

Get that checkbook out Tater!

Nice bike! Qit teasin!! I am the kinda guy that will go in to get a quart of oil and come out with a new bike.

Acutally on the old ThunderChicken it's not on either side.  Pull a lever to release the spare tire on the continental kit, the tire tilts back, and the gas door is through the trunk lid.

I'm with you Shrader. I think they did the leather Tour Pack so if you want a real painted one you have to order it separately... an extra couple of K in Harley Tax. ( I had to order the full Tour Pack to go with my cherry SEEG2 they wouldn't sub for the chopped one.)

I really want to drive!  Why don't you let those two wonderful specimens winter in FL this year.  You know it's really not good to layup vintage machinery.  I keep the company and limber 'em up every few days.  Good idea?  What are friends for.

Well MrWe, the little red one has been back in your neck of the woods before.  It makes a trip to the east coast to a show I like to do every other year or so.  The little white one in the picture has never been farther away from here than the lee side of the Rockies though.  Course with the white car there'd actually be seat for MrsWe to ride in the middle.  In the old vette she'd be stuck on the hump!

Saw the factory literature tonight when picking my bike up from some service work that was done this week.  They only had one copy, so they weren't willing to give it out, but I will say (Magoo) that the autumn haze looked pretty nice in the photo they used.

It's still really hard to get over the leather tour-pak.  It sticks out like a sore thumb, especially on the lighter color like the autumn haze.  The one in the literature even had a couple ripples in the side of it which didn't help matters at all.  Even the sales manager who saw one in person at the dealer show commented he didn't think the tour-pak looked real swell.  Maybe it will be a look that grows on you over time. Right now my first choice is the black candy crimson and charcoal slate.  Second choice is autumn haze and vivid black.  No third choice......

I hope all three colors look better in person than what's on HD's web site (don't think there's a lot of hope for the green)!

When the 05's first came out the Cherry color on their web site didn't do justice to seeing it in person!

Tommy, you are right on the money that the website photos do not do any of the bikes justice.  Except for perhaps the orange and black, they all have to be seen to be believed. You could never fall in love with the banana till you see all that flake in the sun, the teal looks luxurious and rich in person, the blackberry has that illusion black thing going for it and the cherry ---- well it's just candy cherry, what can we say.  It will be good to see the new ultras in person.  IMHO of course.   [smiley=laugh.gif]

Just spent a day a Mike's Famous HD in Delaware (aka, the most overpriced dealer in the country). For example: New '05 Yellow SEEG2 on showroom floor = $36,999.  They had a Green CVO Ultra which the salesperson says they were "taking offers, but my sales manager might want to move this one since it's the end of the month for around $38K."  For what it's worth I went over the FLHTCUSE for about an hour or so and respectfully throw in my .02 cents worth:  I will reserve judgment on the green until I see it in daylight, but what struck me most is that people were just walking by it - the bike kind of went unnoticed (Of course, we don't buy bikes to get attention, do we?).  Let's see...the crazy person that HD set loose a few years ago with a pinstripping kit is still at it.  This guy must have have run out of the orange pinstripe paint that somehow got on our Yellow and Red SEEG2s.  He refilled his gun with a light purple that's now on the FLHTCUSE.   Plus side: the stereo sounds pretty awesome; heated seat and grips very nice; interior of the leather tour pak is very plush; screamin' eagle air cleaner cover is pretty cool looking; new dual beam headlight is nice but the HID xenon version would have been nicer; tank emblem is nice; nice Rinehart-like muffler end caps. I am in the minority on this one, but I kinda' like the leather tour pak.  It appears to be a heavy weight, lockable quality unit that includes the ostritch inserts found on the seat/backrest. The whole appearance of the passenger seating area is cleaned up on the FLHTCUSE as the "armchair" look is eliminated. Minus side:  Tour-pak is rigid mount (but really what Ultra owner ever removes the tour pak?); Harness on base of tour pak on right side is hideous looking; chrome accent strips on saddlebag lids seem haphazzardly placed and...the chrome engine vent hose with the one-inch section of rubber lives on... I think a lot of us die hard SEEG folks are slow to warm up to the FLHTCUSE because it is not a "convertible." It's also not lowered so it does not have the "slammed" look. The traditional Ultra crowd might miss the fender tip/tour pak lighting. I doesn't light up the night like most Ultra owners like (this Ultra wouldn't look too good with lighted rotor covers).  Having said that, I think it's still a great bike for the price (at MSRP probably the best value in the HD lineup), but it may have somewhat of an identity crisis and a narrower niche market.  Hey, I sound like I should be writing editorials for American Iron.  Sorry for the rambling folks...hope I haven't insulted any current or prospective FLHTCUSE owners.  PJ (due to length of above post, I voluntarily am placing myself in the post penalty box for a month)

Pj,
Very professional report.I kinda like the people walking by it. The yellow bike always draws 2 or 3 people and then the Q&A session starts. It might be nice to be incognito. They could have just painted them the black denim color for my taste. I wonder why they call that color black denim? Maybe flat black doesn't ring the same way. Anyway thanks for your observations.

Hey Jerry - funny you should mention colors...the aforementioned yellow SEEG2 at Mike's really drew a crowd...as did the new FLHX (somebody here called it a poor man's SEEG) and the new fat rear tire models.  Oops...forgot...I'm not supposed to be posting - PJ

pj, great post! [smiley=beerchug.gif]  Consider yourself out of the penalty box. [smiley=laugh.gif]  As we get to seet these bikes like you have, maybe you won't be in the minority on the leather tour-pak.  I think you make a good observation though, about the typical Ultra owner wanting the rear-end lit up.

It will be interesting to see how these bikes sell in comparison to the SEEGs.  Dealer near me never had a SEEG on the floor for more than about a week.  Will it be the same with these?  Time will tell.

And they moved the  license plate up higher and that may be more difficult to read. You think with all the L.E.D's on the planet lately they could of slapped a few into that tour -pak. My bet is the Ultra won't be moving like the Seeg's A cheaper way to go is the FLHX with a 95 cube upgrade if someone does not want all the electronics.  Me, I like all that electronic crap  and can never have enough lights in the back, the aftermarket suppliers will pick up the slack where HD left off. I checked accessories for the 06 SE and they have a headlight (HID) and it sells for over $500.00. Claim it last ten times longer. IMHO the Ultra's will move faster then those bulbs.

Saw a watermelon today at one of the area dealers.  First impression was not as bad as looks on the web.  I think the green paint would look good in the sun but the upper color is kind of a deep brown with some purple in it and it did not do much for me.  Speaking of purple, something that  hit me that you dont see on the web pictures is that the light green body stripe has a purple pin stripe above it and the tear patterns are outlined in the same purple - it did not apeal to me.

My biggest concern about the bike would be the leather tour pak.  What happens with road grime, rain, nicks, scratches, etc?  The tag attached to the pak said that during rain the leather may tend to wrinkle but would go away when it dried up.  On the plus side it seem to be well made, sturdy and has a heavy duty gasget.   Another misque is the amp under the tour pak, not the amp itself but the huge bundle of wires connecting it which sticks out on the right side.  They could have easily designed the amp with the connector to the front and routed the wires under the seat and you would not be able to see it!

I liked the seat including the exotic looking leather insert.  The radio appears to be awsome and sounded great.  The bike does not appear to be lowered & therefore does not have the cool factor look of the SEEGs.  They have carried many of the normal CVO parts and chrome forward from the 04 & 05's and added a couple of things like the dash pad - it looks ok but not sure of purpose & would rather have that space for my windshield pouches.  They use a different muffler than I remember from the SEEG but I kind of liked the look of them especially from the rear but since we dont keep the stock ones on long I guess it makes no difference.

Over all I think the bike is ok but just can not get myself excited enough to trade or purchase as a second bike.  Maybe when I see the other colors I will change my mind.  Also, this dealer had the bike priced at $34,500 (+delivery, tax, tags, etc.).

Sorry did not have camera with to take pics!!

Johnny, Great review.  Those were my obervations as well.  Could not understand why they could not have done a better job hiding that bunch of wires coming out of the amp. Really takes away from the look a bit.  I can say I don't hate the bike, but I am not that excited about it either.

I saw the Watermelon today, First impression was that it looks way better then the web picture! Over all a nice looking bike, the leather tour back wasn't too bad. The amp wire under the pac were a joke! It looks like an afterthought. The chrome trim pieces on the tops of the saddlebags looked out of place as they are not centered on the bag lid. The best part about it was the stereo. It rocks pretty nicely! Would I buy one, NO! The price ......$39k and change + taxes and license, probably around 45k out the door. The SEEG is still the best.

Went in to look at the new CVO Ultra.  I thought the paint scheme was pretty awsome, but the rest of the machine left me cold.  The bike sits up high off the ground, nothing sleek about it's appearance.  The seat is the usual touring seat, which in reality is better than the FLHTSE, but nothing really exotic about the seat.  The tourpac really sucks.  It is small inside, and the outside looks like an after-thought.  The need to tie the tourpac and the bag together visually.  The dash is the same old dreary design it has always been, nothing like the FLHTSE.  The didn't do anything to enhance the suspension, even tho every one on this site has talk about or already changed theirs.
All said and done, why would anyone that has seen the FLHTSE take this over it?  I wouldn't! JMHO [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Saw the green one today.  Johnny's and others' comments pretty much sum up my thoughts on the bike.  It has some neat things, but overall, I think the MoCo failed to take things to the next level with this bike.

And I'm sorry, I'm really wanting to like the leather tour-pak, but it's worse in person than in the photos.  It just plain looks wrong on the bike.  Kinda like the half-chrome, half-rubber oil vent line (which is still there, by the way) only magnified a hundred-fold.  It looks as large as a king tour-pak on the outside, but is very tiny inside.  There is no way you could get two full-face helmets inside like you can with a king tour-pak.  So not only doesn't it look good, it does not have as much utility, either.

My dealer has five units coming in (this one and four others).  Three non-greens are already sold and this green one and another are not.  I think the green may be a tough sale.

I so much want to like this bike. I have a deposit on an AH/VB. I tend to agree that the Moto Co missed alot of detail. No floating rotor in the rear. No matching chrome pully. No headbolt covers or head bridges. Fuel line has no cover(matches the oil vent line that way). What the H!!@. Guess th Moto Co has to make more profit on top of the 32,000.00 price tag. Dealer should have a Watermelon next week to at least kick the tires on. [smiley=bigcry.gif]

Saw the green bike in person today at my dealer.  First impression is that the green part of it is not as bad as in the photos.  That part looks better in person but the part you can't tell in the photos is the "black" is more of a brown and funny thing I disliked that part of the paint scheme more so than the green part, if that makes any sense.  As others have said there is a purple stripe there that you can not see in the photos too.  In all it is not a bike that grabbed me and said man I would love to own one of these like the SEEG did.  A buddy of mine was there too and he signed up to get one in the tan color (I can't make myself say autumn brown or whatever they call it).  So no doubt they will all be sold regardless of what people like me like or don't like about them.

Reminds me of the day I took my RG into the dealer to get the saddle bag supports changed out to the style that is on the SEEG (with no guard in front of the bag) and I run into my buddy who was there doing the exact opposite to his bike (getting the style bag supports that I was wanting taken off of his to add the style I was taking off of mine so he would have that guard in front of his saddle bags).  In effect we were both there doing the exact opposite things to our bikes and both happy with what we ended up with.  Guess that is why they have chocolate and vanilla ice cream huh?  Something about personal choice. :)

Is this a true black color on the charcoal bike?
