High RPM when Hot & Parade
« on: September 20, 2013, 04:55:14 PM »

Hi all,

This has been a recurring issue that started about 4 months ago. In Idle my RPM is a little high, lead to more temperature rising. Parade mode just sometimes work or not, don't know the reason yet I am sure it is activated..

Am attaching a video & a picture of the RPM it is fixed around 1.5 or more. Had anyone faced this before ?

Hadye, our throttle by wire configuration has one glaring problem.  In the past if you had accidentally rolled on the throttle even slightly after you turned the bike off, the bike remembers that last throttle setting and will then default to the higher idle speed.  It can however easily be reset.  start and stop the bike three times without touching the throttle, after the third on-off the engine will reset to the OEM throttle setting.  Hope this helps.

start it, let it slip into low idle, then kill it (X3).  on the fourth start the idle should reset.

Hi hadye, yes this setup will work.
It's not a good idea to shut down the bike with "brmmm, brmmm, brmmmmm ......"  8)

DBW Reset - start the engine, without twist the throttle, and turn off , 3x

EITMS on/off - you can twist the DBW throttle approx 1cm over "0" to forward
This will activate/deactivate the EITMS/Parade mode on the EFI.
That's happened me, e.g. by hard-/emergency braking.

sorry for my English

I did both instructions & yet still have a high RPM, imagine standing in traffic light with this high RPM & getting how. I always activate the parade mode but it doesn't work instantly. It have to reach a certain hot temperature to do so

I don't think you have to actually start the engine to reset the idle position. This happen to me and this is what I was told. It worked for me.

switch to run position
wait 10 seconds
switch to off position
repeat 3 times.

Also, it is a good idea to take the breather off and clean the throttle blade area every now and then, it gets some carbon build up and could cause the throttle blade to be a little sticky.

I was at Harley today & the mechanic said that it might be the exhaust (it is not even a full one). He said to bring my tuner to download a map. Which one I don't have any idea. They all suck anyway. What do you think ?

If the exhaust is the same one you had before this problem began, then downloading a map isn't the answer.  The answer is to do some proper diagnostics and find whatever has changed.  Perhaps you have an intake air leak, an electrical or mechanical problem with the electronic throttle system, a bad sensor, or whatever.  Guessing, or just loading a different map, is not a great way to try to solve these sorts of things.  I realize you are probably in an even worse situation than the folks in the USA when it comes to finding competent techs to work on your bike, but I don't know how any of us can even begin to try to diagnose this over the internet.

btw, have you verified the engine speed really is that high?  I think it might be a good idea to verify your tach reading with a known good shop gauge.

So finally there is a way to put my bike on the dyno :pepper: The first run was only 78 HP with only changing with the Vance & hines slash cut slipons. by the end we reached approximately 90 HP. I could feel the change while i am riding. it is much smoother now. Yet the problem of the high RPM still persist. we changed the idle speed down to 805 rpm and still when it becomes hot it escalates back to around 1300-1400 (as displayed on tuner software). I don't know what is the cause

So it turned out to be a faulty air sensor, once changed RPM became normal
