Have a friend who carried like that for several years until the seat belt got him.

So - the seat-belt cocked the hammer and then pulled the trigger?

That is an AD waiting to happen if it is on a loaded chamber.  Have a friend who carried like that for several years until the seat belt got him.  Got lucky but had one heck of a time explaining it to his wife and the upholstery shop.

The seat belt got the grip safety, cocked the hammer, and then fired the gun?  My Sig won't do chit unless the grip safety is released.

Carrying a gun with one in the chamber is more risky than not having one in the chamber, regardless of weapon type...IMO.  A 1911 style gun carried "cocked and locked" is safe IF you're carrying in a holster than covers the thumb safety.

If you practice a little, you can rack the slide with your left hand (for a righty) as you draw and bring the weapon up, if you have use of your left hand.  If you don't, you're probably hosed anyway.

If you stick the gun in your waistbelt sans holster, all bets are then off...

Any auto loader not in condition 1 is a paper weight...maybe you could try a double action revoler with the one hammer chamber empty.  Then you can point and shoot.  Schmoops lcr in 38+ is a spicy light weight that has some decent balistics.

My sig 220 has a hammer drop function that is kinda neeto, if I were to carry it. I have yet to clean it, 1500 rounds..I have yet to drop test it but it is only the house "flashlight" not a carry piece. The trigger is kinda crummy too..

My kimbers are too fancy for carry and the Nighthawk is, well still on my wishlist...Other wise I practice with the crummy lcp .380 but am getting good to 15 foot with it, not bad for a belllygun carried in my front pocket. Still hope never to use it other than at the range.  :coolblue:

Just bought a Ruger LCR .38+. Pretty cool gun. Especially with the new sticky holster. Fits really cool in the bike jacket and should do the trick. Let you guys know how she does at the range. Kimbers to big and to nice for the bike carry.

So - the seat-belt cocked the hammer and then pulled the trigger?

He was carrying it with the hammer down on a chambered round which he had been warned about for years. (Forest Gump stupid is as stupid does kind of guy). Seatbelt caught the hammer and slipped off the hammer before going to full cock.  Hammer did not catch on the half-cock notch(later determined the sear bounced and prevented that)  hammer then fell on a loaded round.

The only way to carry a 1911 of any kind safely is
#1. Cocked and locked (the reason for extended safeties)
#2. Hammer down on an empty chamber
#3. Not at all

Of course I am a rookie on carrying a 1911 having owned one of the first 1970 Mark IV and carrying it till 2010.

I carry my Kimber Ultra covert II (3 in) Cocked safety on and  inside a Milt Sparks holster IWB. Never an issue. Safety is covered.

It all depends how I feel before I go out.

Sometimes I don't carry anything, but when I do it's any one of the following.

H&K .40
Glock .40
S&W 9mm
Ruger .357

If I am feeling a little like a cowboy, I will take one of my Bisley Vaquero's.

Still waiting for my son to tire of his custom Nighthawk. Has dropped several hints about maybe getting rid of it.

I carry a LCR .357.  Shoots really well...I can put all 5 where they need to be.  Love the hammerless design.  With sticky holster, fits well in my boot when riding, and fits totally concealed in cargo shorts front pocket.  Shoot enough .357 hollows through and you will know you have been shooting something.

So Darth I too have the older snake slayer. Which do you prefer the .45LC or the 000 buckshot? That long colt screams out of the gun. If I really want to make some noise I get out the FN 5.7 that I carry with the 30 rd clips. :orange: :orange:
