Looking for a way to get more air to our M8's I found a K&N filter that has almost twice as much material that came close but is not an exact fit for our Ventilators.
-
.
-
The base of the new filter is a little bigger than the stock element so I had to relieve the edging on the top 2/3 of the backing plate.
-
Then I needed to drill a couple of holes in the new element to line up for my housing. I glued a couple of rubber grommets on the new element to replicate the rises that the stock element has surrounding the mounting holes. (forgot to take pics) I also installed a bolt in the back side of the center hole to keep it from pulling air through it.
-
So with a little finagling here is the finished product.
-
Sorry about the crappy photos but the new filter is almost 2 1/2" thick versus less than 1 1/2" stock, retails for only $52.99 (I think Harley charges $59.99 for the smaller stock size K&N upgrade replacement) and therefore should pull almost twice as much air... Maybe one of the people in the know could straighten me out on my last statement. :nixweiss: I also had to replace the 2 bolts with some 1 1/4" and I had my buddy at the machine shop remove the lip on the outside cover as well.
I think it looks great and it should definitely make for some performance improvements.

Looks AWESOME... Great job my Brother 😎🤝
-
I did the some thing but I use the replacement filter for a 16 CVO RGU. Makes a big difference and just looks bad xss.
-
Please post some pics and details on what you did! did you use the same part number? Thanks
-
I didn't use the same part # as rayson56 I used H-D part # 29400022A it's a replacement KN for a 16 CVO RGU. I did have to do all the things he did to make it fit. The front cover that has 117 on it is smaller than the filter.
-
I try to post more pictures from my phone but it says file too big. Need help with this first time posting pictures.
-
Nice job on the air cleaners!
On the pics file size to big, get them on your lap top and resize them then resave and post, also helps when the pics go sideways. And on long replies where I post a pic at the end, I save /copy/ clipboard the response because when it (the forum) rejects the pic for sizing issues I always seem lose the reply I just typed!
-
Damn......K&N is made in china!

Sorry but I don't have a laptop I'm using my phone for all my emails and for this site. Thanks for the info maybe somehow my country xss can figure it out, so I can do it from my phone.

Open the picture in the gallery of your phone and see if there is an edit option, then look for resize. If it's there you can resize them on your phone. Might help if you let us know what phone you are using and the gallery app someone may be familiar w/it and be able to help.

Thanks phone is a Motorola Android didn't see anything that would let me resize.
-
Trying this
-
Next one maybe got it
-
As you can see in the above pictures the outside cover with the 117 on it is smaller than the filter. So the cover is on the rubber part of the filter. Thanks to Fired00d for your help with this picture sizing. Now just need to get adding next pictures in some repile.
-
Another option. I did this in 2018. Bigger than T Man no loss filter.

That is the $50.00 replacement filter E-3988 that I used for my project, but I used the original backing plate. Works fantastic too!
-
I ordered the Ventilator Extreme filter.. It was shipped yesterday from Surdyke...
-
How different is the size of the M8 filter from the twin cam? is it possible to backfit the 2.5 inch thick K&N M8 filter to the stock twin cam backplate?
Thanks

I plan to get this and try it out. I have read good reviews online. It seems to be an in house modified part and not available anywhere else. claims an 80% increase in air flow. Dyno proven up to 150 hp. Works with the stock TB and the SE 64MM. It is a modified backing plate, filter, and hardware for $269. It uses your stock cover.

Big lock, I'm not sure how to do a screen capture on your phone, however on the iPhone if you pull the picture up and then do a screenshot it will save into the photo album at a smaller size. You can edit the photo to crop out any unwanted parts of the screen

I have this on my 2019 CVO and love it. It does stand off a little more than the stock one but only a little and you get used to it quickly.

I’ve got the same one on my 124” 2019 cvo, don’t really notice the increase width.
Nice fit and finish. Uses the stock cvo cover.
