Title: My tuner won’t work
Post by: papahead03 on October 12, 2020, 06:31:40 PM

I have an ‘07 FXDSE Evans I installed a performance 2-1 exhaust and high flow air filter. Purchased the SE pro street tuner and the cable kit. The software opens and I can search to find the Stage 1 tune for my bike but there is no communication with the bike. I’m plugged into the 4 prong plug right under the seat but my but my tuner is not powering on. Which wire is the power wire so I can check to see it has voltage? How much should it have? And where does that wire come from? I want to make sure it’s not a bike issue before I send the tuner back for refund. I have a multimeter and circuit tester, I am a service tech just not on motorcycles. And yes I’m using it exactly as the instructions told me with the switch on and run start button on.

Are you sure you're plugged into the correct connector on the bike, and not the accessory connector?

The data port on the Dyna is behind the left side cover, not under the seat.

Well I appreciate the help there. I guess that explains the problem. I will try to find the other plug tonight.

Well I found the correct plug. Was able to get the tuner to power up, update software, and link to bike. It pulled up the ecm and recognized the bike CIN, told me all current settings are stock and I found the stage 1 flash for my bike. But as soon as I start to load it says “fail to upload, check cable connections and make sure they are good and that battery is charged. Obviously the tuner is connected because it’s reading the ecm. Am I missing something? I know it’s a one bike tuner so do I need to do something to lock it to this bike before it will allow me to load?

And I finally have the answer I wasn’t looking for. The bike already has a Stage 1 tune with a TTS tuner. The ECM is locked so my SEPST can’t be used. Good thing is there’s nothing broken like I was worried about. Bad news looks like I’m going to be buying a TTS to use. Not that it’s a bad tuner just was looking to go a different route. But I’ll figure out the TTS and tune the chit out of my bike. Anybody looking for a SEPST and cable set? It’s not married to anything yet.

If the SEPST has read the VIN on your bike, I'm afraid it IS locked to that ECM.  Sorry for the bad news...JS

PS:  the cables may work for your TTS.

Also, Steve over at FULLSAC can hook you up with a TTS and they will usually give you a map for CVO applications if you buy from them.  Great folks!

Good luck and Merry Christmas!

Bobby

im consistently stunned that the tuner dongle seems to often not make it through to the next owner.. its useless on a bike its not married to, and the bike cant be tuned without one.. why this keeps happening i just do not understand.

Somewhat late Chime in from Australia

Well yes , the Supertuner pro IS now locked to your bike even tho' the bike already had a TTS tune.

I have seen the exact same scenario here in Australia. Dealer tried to load up a stage 4 tune to a mate's Streetglide in 2012 that already had a TTS tune.

They did not tell him they were gunna AND he did not tell them it already had TTS kinda sad story. PLUS nobody knew that TTS "locked out" any other ECM access at the time.

SO the bike had to get an "Unlock" TTS cal from TTS ( easy enough to get from TTS online but still a royal pain in the ass truth be told !)

You can get the Pro dongle unlocked in Australia and Europe , ( and prolly the US now as well) but more $ spend.)

BUT as you don't have the TTS dongle that is not the way to go. You will have to "borrow" a TTS dongle and put an "unlock" calibration into the bike to let the Pro software communicate.

(AND yes mate dongles "go missing" in Australia ALL THE TIME , such is human nature, Sitting on a garage shelf and the bike has changed hands 3 times etc etc)

THEN the brand new Supertuner pro would reflash the bike. A bit of a "journey" , but perhaps you are there already ?

That’s why I always keep the interface module on the bike if I use a se tuner.
