As I remember it we were exploring the possibility that the Screamers may have been shipped with the single hole Softail style fuel line setup, rather than the 2 hole arrangement found on the ’02 and earlier FI machines. I thought that there was some discussion about the timing of the red machines, and so on.

The previously attached photo seems to support the theory of a replacement fuel tank sometime after the machine was shipped. I haven’t been sleeping very well lately, and I believe that this loose end has been keeping me up at night.  ;D

The dime store mystery bugged me for awhile also DJ.  Honestly never was comfortable I found anything that absolutely settled whether the oddballs were replacement tanks or undocumented late production.  Though the latter is very unlikely I'm not sure it's too easily discounted.

I spoke with the guy my bike came from.  He swears on the proverbial stack the tank had never been replaced.  Two others chimed in while this was being played with a few months ago saying they also had the single hole Delphi type tank.  One sent a pic and the other did not.

The guy who didn't send a pic said his "might have been replaced."  They guy who did send a pic was categorical that his had not.  There were also fifteen or so (it's been awhile and I don't remember for sure) responses confirming the normal for 02 and expected Marelli type tank with one hole plugged.

The only thing I know for sure is that I don't know for sure what was going on.  Only other thing of consequence was I got enough pieces to make mine work (and documented them in my parts manual so I can always do it again if need be).  In the end I'll live with a little mystery just fine everytime I hear the bike run :2vrolijk_21: .
