I got ya all beat. I pumped $225 worth of diesel into a 35 ton Grove Crane. I drove it home about 75 miles, and it took 2 hours and between 1/4 and a half of a tank of fuel. I WAS driving WFO tho...45 MPH

why not build a refinery at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba?  I don't think I'd like one on the land behind my house, but like garbage dumps, they have to go somewhere.

I wish I could get a gallon of Acme Pale Ale for $4!!!!

World wide shortage of Hops and Washington is the number one producer in the USA.  Prices on the rise.

Hops have rebounded to the point that some growers are replacing wine grapes with hops.

Slight pump price slip to be wiped by upswing that'll see $3.60 a gallon by June, study says
NEW YORK -- Retail gasoline prices pulled back slightly from record levels Tuesday and gave some consumers a small break, but a new government forecast said gas could reach as high as $4 a gallon during the summer driving season. In its monthly report on petroleum supplies and demand, the Energy Department's Energy Information Administration forecast that monthly average pump prices will peak near $3.60 a gallon in June, but could rise as high as $4 a gallon at times. That's a dime higher than the EIA's previous monthly average projection, and brings government forecasts closer to those of many analysts who expect gas prices to peak close to $4 a gallon. The government also predicted high prices will cut demand for gasoline at the height of the summer. The agency previously said petroleum consumption would rise by 40,000 barrels a day.

In Germany gas is about 1.35 euro per liter which works out to 7.78 per gallon.  I fill up on base which is the US average...but here is the kicker...military doesn't pay tax on their gas...so where does that extra 1.50 go...supposedly for social programs...unflippin believeable. :soapbox:

Here's the rub for the states.  Since they screwed us for so long with the tax on the gallon and not on the price they are now having huge shortfalls of revenue because less gas is being sold at today's prices.

You just have to know a change in taxation is going to be tried now.

In the meantime the roads are going to pot and no one here at least is doing squat about it.

Oh God I have to think out loud here....trying to get the correct props on the boat last weekend

fuel...$3.75 a gallon for diesel at the dock

Boat ran 36.5 kts = 43.8 mph

Fuel burn at 43.8 mph = 104 gph

which makes us getting .4211538 mpg

ran the boat for 7 hours @ 104 gph = 728 gallons @ $3.75 a gallon = $2730

props are wrong....have to try another set this weekend

Anyone want to buy a boat....$1.5M

So the story in all this amazing comments is that for each of us, no matter our income brackets or normal expenditures for fun

the cost of gas is hurting us in some way --- small or big.

I have the chance to work from home 80 hours a month max ---- 70 hours makes the boss feel better ---- well, you know what, at the prices for the cost of commuting, I am willing to start pushing that envelope of 80 hours each month.  And then I think it may need be the need to pay attention to those high occupancy days.  Driving into a Capitol city I can hedge expenses and time by flexing hours to miss the bulk of the traffic.  Need to really work that angle.  Brian, sorry when you cross from thousand to hundreds of thousand you left me, so the mil is out of my income bracket.
