Janis Joplin is alive and well
« on: December 28, 2006, 10:51:08 PM »

What with the semipsychedelic guitar strap, the strap hanging off the shoulder, the leggings, the spirited look in her eyes and the excellent guitar technique I'm pretty sure someone here is channeling the spirit of an early Janis Joplin while doing the deed with her Baby Taylor guitar.

Well if there was any remote thought in your mind that you would ever get rid of the Vette it's gone now. I would hate to have to look her in the eyes and tell her it was gone. :'(

Damn Don...nice Baby Taylor!!  Oh, and the kid is cute too.... ;)

Nothing is quite like a Taylor...I've got a 410C LTD...only 180 of them made...special woods for a 410 and the new electronics.  Bo Bice is a good friend of mine, and back when he was managing a guitar shop, he sold it to me.

Gary, that car has been around and with me a lot longer than she has.  But I finally put seat belts in it because she seemed to latch on to it and there had to be a way to buckle down her car seat.  Don't know if it's the color or what.  But she's always dug it.  And since I have promised to teach her to drive a stick in it getting rid of it would be tough  ;D .

There is one bone of contention in all that though.  Her daddy's old car, that he and his dad have had for a long time, is a nice standard little 69 box Mustang.  He knows the other cars are cooler.  He knows his daugher digs the convertibles.  But he'd still like it if she liked his car at least close to as much  ::) .

Even from early on, however, you can see where his choices have lain and what she preferred to drive:

Fortunately though she also grasped early on the importance of checking her own oil.

But what can you expect when she's been literally hanging out in the shop since she was only a few weeks old?

Terry, the music and interests thereto is a place she is very lucky to have her daddy around.  He can play instruments that I don't even know the name of.  Good at it too.  So she's grown up with it always being around her.

She knows my skills reside elsewhere as she only asks me to tune the radio or put in a CD.  I was able to supply that Baby Taylor that she's now actually beginning to grow in to a bit.  But any skill there is of course her own and any lessons or training come straight from daddy's hands.

Well, you did good for a first guitar...most folks don't think it's worth getting something decent for a first, but it makes a huge difference in sound and playability, so if they are interested, it will capture their ability early on.

Very cute girl...I have a couple of nieces (twins) but they are grown now.  If I had ever had a little girl, she would be absolutely spoiled rotten.

I like that image too.  That cherry picker has lifted a lot of engines in its day. Never had a more precious cargo though.

I can't do anymore than just plunk along on them Terry.  So I'm really almost as well suited to air guitar as to anything with actual strings.  But decent tools to the task are always worth doing; especially where she's concerned.

Last year my daughter found the perfect birthday gift for me at Buckle in Tampa ... a Janis Joplin t-shirt.   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]   When I went to the store to try it on, the very young salesclerk said to me, "Oh, you like Janis Joplin ... I saw her on Letterman the other night".    ;D

That's funny.  Poor sales clerk had been testing the shrooms.
