I just noticed that the chrome trim around the fuel filler cap is lifting, The crap plastic trim and double sided tape cant be up to the job. One more item to add to the list of quality issues. The bike has done 1600km, lives under a cover and has never had fuel split on the tank..

had the same problem after the dealer replaced the first once since the black paint came off after getting some gas on it.

I had one lose its adhesion probly from getting some gas on it. You just take it off clean it up and stick the new one back on. Only goes on one way

Yep not a big deal, i have just ordered two, one for stock LOL. My issue is that it should not happen, the trim should be fixed to the tank with cap screws not tape. its a fuel tank
filler ring not a badge stuck to the front guard. Quality not. ::)

Yep - useless!
Goes on one way to keep it flush with tank. To ensure exact positioning however I did this;
Small piece of masking tape on tank next to where trim outer edge will be. Revolve trim on tank until position is correct. Place another piece of masking tape on trim opposite previous piece. Mark a straight line between the two pieces. Remove backing from trim. Align the two lines and press. Job done!....until the next time!

Worry not, you'll get another try soon. It will lift again or you'll want to change it after chipping it a few times with the petrol pump nozzle :nixweiss:

Anybody get the bright idea to put a fake filler assembly on the other side of tank so it doesn't look like HD forgot to do it? Was wondering what would be involved in doing so. Thanks.

My CVO Breakout had the trim ring start to lift....when I bought it, they replaced the gas tank before I bought it and I think they didn't "clock" it right. I bought a replacement one, but never put it on.

anyone by chance have a part number for the trim ring in black Harley should provide a dozen or so of these since they don't last long. Very poor idea/design......

not sure why black is more than chrome, but here you go. i'd eventually like to replace the whole she-bang on my bike from chrome to black, but that's expensive. unless you wanna trade :coolblue:

not bad 12 bucks for a .50 cent piece of chit plastic that last just a short time. Harley should give out a dozen of these no charge to each owner. TX's for the info though!
