I've heard the 110's are noisy, but just wondering if a intermittent clanking noise from primary area is normal at idle...
-
would be a guess? but may be the in-compatable comp-en-sator.
-
Not familiar with that. Can you provide more details?
-
I vote for compensator too. Get it fixed soon if it comes apart it’ll be more $$.
ALSO, If it has ever been removed it may not have been retorqued correctly.

What model and year bike? Is this bike new to you, or are you the first owner? The reason I ask is if you're the first owner you would know the service history of the bike, and you would know if this is something that just started recently or has it been that way for a long time.
Two items commonly known to cause symptoms like what you described are the compensator and the automatic primary chain adjuster.

Thanks Jerry. Bike is new to me. 2016 FLHXSE with 5000 miles. Only non stock parts are slip ons and the chrome inner primary. Recently had 5000 mile service.

Mine started making a noise at idle with about 10k on it. Dealer checked everyhing and found nothing wrong. I also noticed the bike idle rpm seemed a little low. I had a HD tuner and dealer raised the idle rpm by 50 and the noise went away. I have put 10k miles on since then and no issues.
Maybe just dumb luck

Run it back to where bought it have them take a listen to it, since you just bought it recently

Very good bet. These things are like fragmentation grenades if they come apart while the motor is running.
IN MY EXPERIENCE, it really doesn’t matter because it needs to be replaced. be sure to carefully check everything while you are in there. The blame game starts when the bill shows up.
I hope it works out favorably for you.
