Title: Engine Oil Color?
Post by: zigzag930 on September 16, 2018, 10:43:48 AM
I had a new 110 installed under ESP not too long ago (1 month ago).   Had the shop do an oil/filter change at 500 miles with Syn-3.

Since that time, we rode from SW Florida to North Ga, NC, TN and back.  It was a hot ride up with quite a bit of mountain roads once we were in the upper part of GA.  I figure I did about 1700 miles on this trip, so decided to dump the oil myself to sort of align the new motor with the chassis milage intervals.

I was surprised when I drained the oil that the color was dark tea colored brown, not clean and clear like new Syn-3.   Guess I expected it come come out looking new.   There wasn't any metal on the magnet and the oil didn't seem to have any contaminates, but the color concerns me.

Is this normal on a new motor?

Sounds perfectly normal at 1,700 miles.

Don't guess.
Have a compression test done.
Blowby deteriorates oil faster than normal. So does an overly rich mixture.
