Title: 117" kit, on the fence... free install at local dealer
Post by: DMize on November 18, 2018, 12:38:14 PM
Local dealer is running a Christmas sales special... free install on SE parts. I called and verified the special will save @16 hours labor on the 117" kit.

Im on a 16 CVO RGU w/ 13k miles, pretty much stock... decatted head pipe and CVO cans with fullsac cores.

I see a number of threads on the kit, and Ive been going through them... but in general whats the feedback on the kit? Good to go or pass?

Thanks
D.

Does this combo have a propensity to sump?

So, I guess that is a nod that its worth it? Seems like people are getting @120 / 120 out of the kits I thought the advertised numbers were in the low 100's so thats why i was on the fence mainly.

I got this in the mail from Hales HD on Friday.

I haven't seen that issue arise on the TC engine.

Ya. I saw that. I was going to call tomorrow to see.... but it says it can not be combined with other offers. But... I could buy some of the other stuff I might need... like a SE Tuner.

Around 30,000 miles on the 117 cyl and piston kit and would have to say been a very good upgrade

G’day Yellow09SERG

What pipes, mufflers, tuner are you running with it & which cam? Did you change out your lifters?

Cheers Tom

Tom,
Running the V&H power duel head pipe with Rineheart 4" round mufflers. Those were left on the bike from the 110 and I liked the sound. I am sure there are better exhaust combo's out there.  Using the kury 24d cam with S&S premium lifter. TTS tuner. Sachs heads. Been very happy with the build. 2up and 2up with trailer

Free labor on a major upgrade of this magnitude ain't to be sneezed at.  If it were me on the fence debating the upgrade on my '15 and free labor doesn't push me over to do the upgrade, I'd probably never do it.  16 hours at what I've seen as a minimum locally, $75 is $1,200 bucks.  Some dealerships are at $100 to $110 and hour which yields savings from $1,600 to $1,760....that's a very, substantial discount.

If you do a search on this upgrade to the twin cam, the threads I've read show "good to go" for most of the comments.

I had the 117 on my 16 RGU. Loved it. You mentioned 120/120, and the SE tuner. You won't see those numbers with a canned map. You will need an aftermarket tuner and full tune to get close to that. Mine was HD kit installed as furnished, Fullsac DX pipe and 2" baffles. TTS tuner, 117/127.

Thanks Yellow09SERG,

Lucille has fallen victim to the ubiquitous lifter failure at 25k & change like it was prescribed.

Decided to go to the 117 while they were fixing her up. As Lucille is being sorted under Warranty (thank you ESP you just paid for yourself), we have stuck with the basic kit so it will continue. No headwork etc & the same tuner , headers & mufflers that worked so nicely when she was a 110.

I am very much looking forward to being reunited with Lucille & seeing what difference there is. Lucille poked along very well before so I am hoping for more of the same without lifter issues down the track.

I will let all y’all know what the seat of my pants has to say about it once I get a few miles under her.

Giddy Up!

Cheers Tom

I would be very happy with those numbers. Never had anything close to that...

I already have power duals and CVO cans with the fullsac baffles... i think i just need to add a tuner. I think ill ask about some head work on the side, so momma doesnt see the invoice...guessing ill pay for the kit now and have it instslled this spring, giving me time to collect some pennies for the heads.

Last unknown for me is to contact the 3rd party esp i have. I recall them saying it covered any extra motor work including work done at indy shops...but i want to double check.

Thanks for the input all.... looks like its a go! Now i just need winter to pass quickly!

In southern komifornia the free labor would push me over the edge for sure. Out here, most stealerships charge 130 an hour or more.

I have done 3 bikes with this setup and what a difference in torque and ride I am a firm believer in this setup.
