‘17 CVO Rocker Box Leak
« on: November 04, 2017, 04:22:10 PM »

I’ve owned my ‘17 CVO SG for a year and currently have 6,040 miles on the odometer.
At 3,000 miles, the oil light came on (serviced at 1k).

Purchased a qt of oil, and all good until 4,200 miles when the engine light came. Took to a dealer, and problem resolved. Bike serviced at 5k miles.

Now, at 6k miles, the rocker box is leaking.
Apparently Harley is aware of this problem?

Anyone experience these issues, or have some insight?

Rocker box leaks were not that uncommon on twin cams.  If it's the lower rocker box that's leaking, just remove the upper rocker box, retorque the lower rocker box bolts and reinstall the top rocker box.  I imagine the M8 is similar.

If Denny's burned your pancakes and bacon every time you went there, wouldn't you finally wise up and try IHOP??

That's probably not a good analogy....

If the Ritz had a problem with every stay such as dirty room, or cold water in the shower, or roaches, wouldn't you think they were too expensive for the quality you get?

The two issues aren't necessarily related.  Take the bike to the dealer and have the rocker box leak repaired.  While you're there, ask them what they found and did to resolve the check engine light problem previously.  And most definitely, check your oil level often to see if you have an oil consumption or sumping problem (see other threads on the M8 oil sumping issues).  If the oil pressure light came on because you were low on oil, that's one kind of issue.  If the oil pressure light came on due to a bad oil pump, that's a different kind of issue.
