Trike my CVO
« on: January 02, 2018, 05:46:38 PM »

Looking for some input in regards to a Harley trike.  Am getting older and started to think about a trike.  Went to the dealership to consider a 2018 tri-glide but found it, for some reason, with less room for the driver and passenger than what I find on my 14 ultra limited cvo.  Thus, I am considering triking my 14 CVO with a kit such as Lehman or Road Smith.  Other brands would also be a option.   Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated on first, the idea of striking a CVO and second the pro's and cons of the various trike kits. Thanks.

Have you considered a reverse trike.  Here is one company I have seen lots of conversations about in the past; https://www.tiltingmotorworks.com/

Has me considering something like that as I get older.

I traded my '17 CVO Limited for an '18 Tri-Glide back in September.  I and my co-rider cannot tell any difference as far as seating position and room from our '17 or our '12 CVO Ultra for that matter.  Now I do have the tour pak relocation kit on all these bikes.  The seat on the trike (like all the non-CVO touring bikes) does sit a bit differently from the CVO saddles but I do think that is about all the difference.

I thought about triking my CVO and also investigated the Tilting Works trike but decided against them for several reasons:  in either case it will void the factory warranty and and ESP coverage for the power train.  This was also confirmed by my dealer who was recently certified to install the Tilting Works conversion.  Also, the pricing on any conversion is pretty steep.  So for these reasons I chose a factory Tri-Glide and am very, very happy with my dicision.  It is a great bike.   :2vrolijk_21:

DFT Trikes has converted several CVOs to trikes.  They looked really nice when they were done.  They do have independent rear suspension so a little softer ride than Harley trikes.

A member of this forum, Dean Nelson had two or three of his CVOs converted by DFT.  You might do a search on this forum to see pics of his.  I've seen two of his, in person and they were very, very nice.   :2vrolijk_21:

I sold my CVO and bought a trike and I find no difference at all in driver or passenger room.

I triked my 2010 CVO when I blew my knee out.  Hannigan kit and I absolutely loved it.  With the independent rear suspension and front rake change it handled like a sports car.  Road the dragon with 2 very experienced buddies and they could not keep up.  After very successful surgery and my wife deciding she wanted to ride her own I went back to 2 wheels but never regretted the conversion.

Which one, Grizz?  The operator is fairly impressive in his own right..... :2vrolijk_21:

I should clarify....impressive as in look at how much he towers over the already tall windshield....that guy is TALL.  He makes that CVO look like a child's toy.....

Yeah, I'm sure he would make a better linebacker than a tight end!  ;D

He's a big boy for sure!
