air breather question
« on: March 15, 2018, 06:07:12 PM »

As the title says, I was thinking about putting the screaming eagle extreme billet air cleaner on my 1015 cvo limited. And am wondering if I need to also do a tune on the bike also? I do have the vance and hines mufflers, the big rounds. Thanks for any and all help!! The part number for the air cleaner is Screamin’ Eagle Extreme Billet Ventilator Air Cleaner Kit
Part Number 29400224

Has the bike been flashed or a map installed for the exhaust mods?

Regardless of the answer above the bike will run much better with a tune by a good tuner with a flash tuner like the TTS or PV.

the bike is stock except for the mufflers, sorry I should have put that up there. the mufflers are the monster rounds from vance and hines. thanks for your help, but I didn't want to do a tuner if I don't have to.

More air in will require a tune, I fitted the same breather to my 2015 without problems as I am sure the
air flow is the same.

Mickle, that's what I was wondering, is it the same type of air cleaner, same air flow. it looks like its the same filter in it.

Since you have done the exhaust you will need it. The difference between the air cleaners is insignificant. If you want your bike to run properly you will need a a tune and tuner.

The "billet" air cleaner is basically a cosmetic change only, for bikes that came with the Ventilator stock.  If you are actually seeking improved flow, you'll need to look elsewhere.

Hd-dude is right, while the bike will run "OK" without a tune, it will run better with a tune.  That is actually true even if you don't change anything but the tune.

To expand on what Jerry said and quite frankly be blunt, the Harley factory tune is grossly inefficient. The tune is strictly to make the motor run but primarily to meet regulatory emissions requirements regardless of the effect it has on the engines heat, power and longevity.

Just received this yesterday. I am currently breaking in the new motor with the stage 4 and am set up with the tuner for March 31st and figured if I was ever going to try and improve the ac performance this was the time. Since I have speakers in my lowers I cant fit even the short heavy breather and know the stock ac is choking the motor down. This seems like the perfect solution (certainly better be for how much it cost!). I sent them the screaming eagle badge that they machined to fit new ac. I attached the YouTube video they did as well:
