First Ride CVO M8 Road Glide
« on: June 21, 2018, 06:22:22 PM »

First impressions,

Keeping in mind that I never exceeded 3000 RPMs for about 25 highway miles.

The left front toe shifter is at an akward spot I have to look for it most of the times, hopefully I get used to it or I may have to switch styles.

Holy crap the front end feels so solid now!! I can absolutely feel a difference from the 16 Street Glide front end to the 2018 reworked front end. It feels like I’m in a tank! No shakes, no wobbles, and it feels so sturdy under me.

Kinda bummed there is no communicator dock.

The handle bars need to be replaced. I had Yaffes on my 15 Road Glide Special thinking about those.

The touch screen is so far up it’s a stretch to reach and I’m 6 feet tall. If the sun is hitting it I can’t even see it , Street Glide never had that issue.

Not sold on oil cooled heads...jury is still out, my liquid cooled heads on my SG gave me a sense of security( maybe false). When I ride west I’m thinking about installing that fan.

The 2 small compartments for storage on the fairing are akward and not very conducive for anything other than a mint, pack of cigs, or some gum.

Overall I am super excited and can’t wait for my trip to Little Rock on Tuesday from Dallas!

 Congrats on your new ride.
The distance between eyeballs and screen was to much for me,  but I do like the look of the bike overall.

Need to mention that the stock windshield on the Gunship is useless, I already ordered a Kuryaki.

I love that the fob locks the bags and fork lock!!!

She looks so good in my garage!!!

the toe shifter can be adjusted to where it is comfortable for you.  you can move it a spline on the shaft, or if you need finer adjustment, use the shift linkage.

for the 'infotainment', use the thumb switches on your handlebars.

hope you get miles of smiles on the ride.  once you go shark, it's hard to go back to batwing....

First thing I do when I get a new bike is adjust the heal and toe shifters, put the heal as low as it goes an still will complete the up shift.  I put the toe as low as it goes and complete the down shift.

The height of the levers is not the issue, for me it’s that the front peg on the front lever doesn’t come out far enough so I have to go pigeon towed to find it. Did not have this issue on the street glide.

That is interesting, I have not noticed any difference in how far out it comes compared to the 17 CVO Street Glide I had, or the 15 SVO Road Glide Ultra or the four CVO's before that.

No comma port but on the website it says it’s standard.

After 640 miles I must say Lowers are needed...that wind beat my legs up over 75mph...had my legs shaking at 90Plus. Looking at the lowers for RG thresh now.

Also the M8 engine is super quiet and very responsive. 6th gear 3500 rpms crusing at 95mph with a passenger. Gas was burned quickly tho lol.::

I did manage 110 mph and at full throttle it was not moving from that...

The communication port is in the right side glove box on the RGs.  Mine was at the very back.

For 2018’s Harley went to the WHIM (wireless headset interface module) instead of using wired headsets.

The M8 bikes are governed to 107 mph.  5th or 6th 107 mph is it, unless you add an after market tuner capable of removing it.

You indicated 110 sounds about right as HD speedometer always indicate faster than your going unless you calibrate the speedometer with a tuner.

I am guessing your dealer did not do a good job explaining your bike at delivery.  It came with one Harley wireless head set, the BOOM 20S.   The bike also has an installed WHIM, Wireless Headset Interface Module.

This set up lets you talk on the phone, or give voice commands to the bike.  If you get a second head set you have intercom with your passenger.

I'm going to ask a question for which I think I already know the answer but here it goes. Can you intercom between an HD Sena 20S and a regular Sena 20s?

My understanding is yes, the Sena 20's is completely comparable except music will be in mono from the BOOM.  All other function will work correctly with BOOM.

I can confirm that my 10S did not pair with the HD Whim.
