Babe and I are in Cody, Wy. for a couple of days.  We rolled up Chief Joseph Scenic Byway and over Bear Tooth Pass today....as usual, most of these pics I shot while on the fly....

These first few pics were taken while we were still on Chief Joseph Scenic Byway.....

Cows Crossing straight ahead!

And as we roll around a curve this is our first view of the Bear Tooth Mountain (the one with the sharp peak).  I've never seen a bear's tooth up close so I'll have to take their word for it.....and yes, that's snow on July 1st!

And one of several lakes that are along US212 aka Bear Tooth Hwy.....

And eventually we rolled up behind several CVOs from Ontario, Canada.  Not sure if those riders are on this forum or not?

We even rolled up on several ladies cross country skiing, in their swimsuit tops.....(sorry for the bad photo.....taken on the fly and on a switch back curve).....

This view shows many of the lakes that we'd already passed, on our way to the top.....

There was a lot of snow up on top and down around freezing while it was 82F back in Cody.....

Cody is one of our favorite places.  Chief Joseph & Beartooth are great rides!  Thanks for posting the pics JCZ, enjoyed seeing the sights along with you on your ride. Red Lodge isn't a bad place to waste a few hours, either.   :2vrolijk_21:

No cougar in the woods......but we did see a dead wolf today.  Road kill over by Buffalo Bill State Park.  I thought "damn, that's a mighty big coyote" so made a u-turn to go back and get a second look.  It was a wolf....big even for a wolf.  Obviously been deade for a couple of days......really stunk but other animals (vultures, etc.) hadn't set in on it.  It was right on the shoulder so traffic would have an impact on that.  I can tell you it was bumper to bumper holiday traffic heading in to the park as we came back to Cody today.

We're heading all the way through the park tomorrow, with my toy hauler, to West Yellowstone.  Because this traffic is exceptionally heavy due to the holiday, we're going to leave early in the morning and try to get all the way through before noon.

It was expensive.....seems like it was $3.76 a gal. for premium.    Here in Yellowstone now and it's pretty high around here, too.

Great riding JCZ.  Enjoy!  And thanks for the pics.
If you haven't already Hwy 14 and 14a thru the Big Horn forest do not disappoint.  14 was a little more scenic than 14a IMO but both are excellent.
I thought St. Joseph Hwy (locals call it Dead Indian) was as spectacular as Beartooth.
We stayed one night in Red Lodge at Buffalo Bill's hotel.  We stayed in one of the seven suites and that was pretty cool too.  Rooms are updated but old western decor.
Next time I won't miss the Museum in Cody WY.  Every single person I have known to go... raves.
Have a safe and great trip.

We rode both Chief Joseph and Beartooth last year. We've got a lot of the same pictures. After we rode over Beartooth, we stayed the night in Red Lodge and then, because it was so nice, we rode back over the next morning.
