2012 FLHXSE3. Rear Tail light(fender mounted)
« on: August 16, 2018, 09:23:51 PM »

Gents, got a question regarding the rear tail light on a Canadian model 12' CVO Street Glide.  Do non U.S. models come with the large red traditionally mounted tail/stop lamp on the rear fender ?  The reason I ask is the pretty much all photos I've seen of American models, none of them have this rear stop/tail lamp on the rear fender.  My bike has the two LED(Amber color)  factory strips in the filler panels between the saddle bags and rear fender and it also came with red rear tail lamp.  So is it European, Canadian & other Non U.S. models ?

What are my options in replacing this old style tail lamp ?  Custom Dynamics ?  Kuryakyn ?  TruckLite ?
Thanks in advance ...sorry for the long post .

The US models do not have the red center tail light. Where you have Amber light panels, the US models are red. Canada has different requirements for rear lighting.

It's not clear from your post what you are trying to accomplish. If you're trying to make your bike look like an American model, you're going to have to order the American parts for it. This would include the American rear fender, red light strips and a different wiring harness for the rear end. If you want to replace the center red light, there are various options.

Thanks for the reply Greg ;  I'm not trying to eliminate that centre red tail lamp from the rear fender.  Especially if it's required by DOT;  just wanted to know what options or recommendations others have used as far as an LED stop lamp.  I guess my stop/tail lamp on my bike is a traditional style found on all touring(Canadian)  models ?

Hey Joe.

Go back to the street glide section and search words like, pig nose, led envelope lights and a few threads will come up about this. Since those threads I can tell you that HD sells a smoked LED light. You can buy the U.S. smoked led envelope lights from HD and you can hard wire the lights into the harness under the seat. No module is required. I had the quick connect module to make all the lights work as running, brake and turn signals but it kept flickering. Did not matter how or where you grounded it. Take your time to hard wire it.
