New Infotainment System
« on: August 28, 2018, 11:58:21 PM »

Now that some here are starting to take delivery of 19's I am hoping some will post up how the new system is working. I went to a dealer and played with it for about 2 minutes and loved how fast it booted up. Hoping rest of performance improved as well, looking forward to hearing about it.

It has already been said somewhere on this site that the new radio cannot replace the GT6.5. What I can’t figure out is if you can install the new radio as a replacement for the old 4.3 (STILL OFFERED IN 19)  why can’t it replace a 6.5?
I really want the new radio in my 2015 Road Glide, saw it at the dealer and it is awesome! There has to be someone on this site who wants to be a hero and forge ahead with this project!

I stopped today at Adventure Harley in Dover Ohio while travelling home from Canton and played with the new touch screen.   While it is faster and has a new interface,  the actual visible display area seems to be about the same size as the previous version.    The area to the sides is framed in black and appears to be reserved only for the "Virtual" buttons that is no longer there?

It is in the new parts section of the catalog. Can not imagine anyone paying $1900 for a radio that starts faster and has fewer external buttons but to each his own. Someone will soon have a harness or override or something to make it work in older bikes, But I have to say WHY? Are we in such a hurry that a few seconds at start-up is that important? But if you want it, buy it and get started figuring out how to make it work.

I wonder if it is something they'd release later on, all it would take is the proper firmware update by HD and Harman Kardan. I would think they will milk this for all it's worth and sell them to '19 buyers of lower models (Because it's in the P&A catalog only available for '19's), and use this to sell 2019 Bikes. After a couple of years then sell them to everyone w a '14 up rushmore bike. I wouldn't think they would completely re-do the wiring and the CANBUS system on the 2019's. I'd like it on my 2015 if it was available.

I assume like a car with Apple play once you activate the Apple play you can use the nav on the iPhone which IMO is terrific. When I chased my kid all around the country when he played football in college I used my my for nav and it worked perfect.

Will be interesting to learn if the new system offers real improvements over the past system, other than speed & a new face plate interface.  Have not seen anything definitive on what the actual capabilities are vs the old system.  The main area that needed improvement was the GPS.

Couldnt agree more which is why I am hoping the Apple play will fix that. The company that makes the nav for Harley also makes it for BMW cars and they are horrible! If I can use my phone which is what I do in my car then problem solved

There is an Android version too for the new screen, if I recall correctly. Would be a decent fix.  Did not know Nav was the same as BMW.  Explains a lot, they both suck. GPS manufacturers have had a proprietary $$ windfall for some time now.  Days are numbered I hope, the Garmin units on HDs were dismal as well, but worked better than the early version Infotainments.

I have had it for a week now and I like it. It is much faster and the navigation has better graphics and the menus are more user friendly in my opinion :)

Anyone help me with just creating a route as I ride it, then save it to view the specifics of the ride (milage, fuel consumed, ave speed etc.)? This on a 2018 SG CVO and I've used the record on feature and then uncheck box after the ride and it isn't stored under trails. I'd like to be able to do this without programming a destination. I've gone through the manual a few times and am just no seeing how this is done. Thanks much, CC

I have owned two GMC Sierra's in the past three years. Both have had voice activated GPS. I mumble and they catch everything I say which is pretty cool. So let's take this scenario: driving in an unknown area and want to find a Dunkin' Donuts:

GMC (or any auto GPS) Me-"find Dunkin' Donuts near me". GPS- "I think you want to find a place of interest", Me- "yes". GPS- "state type of place of interest", Me- "Food", "Coffee", "Dunkin donuts". GPS- "sorry, did not find anything"

Now Android auto:  Me- "find Dunkin' Donuts near me". Android auto- "found six within 25 miles showing all on current route"

Seriously, auto and motorcycle manufacturers have no clue how to develop or use GPS compared to android or Apple
