Lost oil pressure 4,000 miles after 117 upgrade

I’d add to what Rigid said and cut the oil filter in half and see what is in there.

Have you dropped the oil too see if any metal is in there?

You did use the dowel pins between the pump sections right?

The runout was .04 so well within specs, I don't see any debris or metal shavings in the cam cavity or when I drained the oil

Inspect your lifters and make sure they are intact.  A chunk of something jammed your oil pump and broke the gear.  My opinion, the oil pump is secondary collateral damage to debris.  Now to find the source of the debris...

Not enough clearance between pump and plate. S&S updated the spec a while ago.

How do you adjust it? (Buy a new pump?)

.04" runout? WAY too much, unless you meant .004?

There was a group of pumps shipped without the pins

If the lifters (or other bearings) haven't fallen apart and crank run-out is within spec then you have to be looking at either a component or installation issue.

Since it seems S&S is aware of an issue (see John Sachs' and HD Street Performance's posts), you need to contact S&S.  They have a warranty, and if the failure was a result of a problem with the pump they should take care of it.  The next question would be, what about the debris from this failure?  There has to be some metal particles somewhere in the engine.  Are they going to pay for inspecting for those pieces and any repairs for damage caused by the pump failure?

Yeah that the $64 question for sure.  Sure hope they step up and do what's right.

Yes the Crank Runout was .004 so that was well within specs from S&S......I dropped the Pump and Plate off at a local S&S Dealer today so I will see what S&S says

Well apparently S&S knows of the issue with this group of pumps, as a few CVO owners who did this 110 to 117 upgrade had the same issue, they replaced my Pump and Cam Plate and the S&S Dealer did not even have to send the parts back for review, Great news!

That's great news!  Kudos to S&S.  Unfortunately you likely won't be able to recover the labor costs but c'est la vie.

What about the "grenades" rolling around in your engine?
