New Freedom exhaust
« on: September 24, 2007, 09:26:20 AM »

Well they are finally out with the new exhaust,  every nice looking exhaust and sounds great.  Sounds like Brad has spent a lot of time with R&D on them.  Am going down tomorrow to get it installed along with cams and a SERT.

mr_magoo,

Do you know if the system will be similar to the "new" BUB Seven True Dual?

I doubt it since Brad has spent a lot of time and a lot of money on research and develpment of this exhaust system.  It's a performance dual exhaust but it's got some pretty trick features.  Both sides can be removed without taking the heat shields off.  It runs cooler than other exhuasts so it doesn't heat up everything inside the saddle bag.  It's actually designed where it wicks heat away from the rear cylinder.  It doesn't have the "droan" that other performance exhausts have when you've been riding hour after hour out there across that desert (again, due to an engineering item within the exhaust).  He's got dyno sheets where it out performs all the major performance exhausts.  It's designed where the torque comes on lower in the RPM range.

Kind of pricey, but if it does everything it's supposed to (after using his cams, I'd think it does), should be well worth it.  Dave (Magoo) will be the first from this site to get them........he can let us know.

Not quite the first, I installed a set for Josh (joshieboy) from San Jose 2 weeks ago on his 06. They are different but i have to tell you that the look and sound great. Power and torque without the loud rumble of the rineharts. I also have a set going on Wildclyde's 07 as we speak. Along with a Twin Tec TCFI II closed loop system. I will also be switching over in the coming weeks!

I'm the first 08 to get work done with an H version of the race tuner which includes the 08 models.  Having cams (YB14)done, and the new exhaust.  But am not using the ram air cleaner they have out (kinda pricey) wow did I say that.  He tells me that it will run cooler.

Yep, the first 08 :2vrolijk_21:. The new AC kit is really cool as well, and pricey... Yep! I rode his demo bike while he was at the open house and it really does blow air onto the rear cylinder. Pretty cool stuff!. Just so I don't get the  :worthless: Here is a pic of the Air Cleaner:

Got home with the bike, man what a difference.  Brad said it would be a quiet exhaust and it is till you roll it on then it has a nice bark.  Am very happy with the bike and it doesn't seem to be getting as hot.

I thought the same thing till I saw them in person at Jim's grand opening.  But I'd not buy them for looks, anyway.......but for the performance, the quieter ride when it's not twisted WFO and the chrome that doesn't discolor, the cooler rear cylinder issue, etc. etc.

Hey Andy :worthless:

 :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

I don't have a dyno sheet to prove it (I did the tune with the Twin Scan) but the seat of the pants dyno says that these pipes outperform the Thunder header. Very impressive! I will be replacing the previous Freedom Pipes with the new ones on the Blue bike so i'll get a feel for the difference there as well.

I still think you need to buy Victoria the Hawg Wired system as she likes to sing to the music. ;D :bananarock:
 Glad you like the pipes Terry is leaning towards them he really enjoyed talking to Brad from Freedom Cycle at H-D's grand opening. Of course I was looking at the Hawg Wired system that they had on display. I think pipes and music go hand in hand.

Fellows, I know Freedom makes great products, but the person that designed the ends of the mufflers needs a 1st class whippin.  And the guy that approved the design needs fired.  The same thing goes with S&S and their ends of the SPO's..   I can't believe the ends look that homely.

What all comes with the Elite "D" Exhaust system for the $1,183.95?

Are these available for all bikes?

Can someone give me an idea as to the sound (loudness)?

Thanks,

The exhaust come complete with headpipes, full coverage heat shields and mufflers. Availible for touring models. There is a kit for 99-06 and 07 & up.

Sound wise they have a deep tone. Much quieter than Rineharts, I had them idleing side by side with them and I would say at least 30% reduction. When you get on it they sound great, good deep Harley rumble.

Jim,

Was any tune done to the bike while it was bone stock?   If not it really isn't a fair comparison, it would be better to then compare the numbers to a D&D or Rineharts with SERT to get a true opinion on how much better they show.   I am not in any way putting the pipes down I am sure they are good, but people need to compare apples to apples vs. untuned to tuned.

What is the diameter of the headpipes that come with the new Freedoms?  Are they the same as stock or Rineharts?  If Freedom has a good thing going with these mufflers, maybe they should consider making them fit the stock headers so you could just add the muffs?

The headers are stepped, at the muffler they are 2 1/2". They won't fit any others.

Harry;
The bike was stock except a stage 1 AC kit as I mentioned in the post. I posted it to show that these pipes do perform. As a comparison most 110" with RH's or other pipes are getting numbers that are close to what these have shown. The increases seen here are similiar if not a bit better than most of us have seen with an exhaust system and Race tuner or PCIII.

Jim,

Sounds like a good alternative depending on taste of sound and or look.   The numbers are as good if not slightly better than most of the dyno's were seeing with true duals on the FLH's.   Generally Rineharts are 86-95 hp and 105-115 torque on the average.   Some might be slightly higher or lower depending on the day / dyno / tuner etc.
Who did the tune with the SERT in this case, thought that Brad was only doing the DTT and Power Commander?  Might be another place people can look to get some help with the SERT in that area.

Harry;
Brad did the tune, He is only using the SERT 07 & up bikes to retian the o2 sensors. He has told me that he can get a much better tune on them with it over the PCIII.

That is good to know that Brad will tune with the Race Tuner.   Do you know if he is taking advantage of the closed loop system or by-passing it and just setting up the map in open mode like he would with a power commander since he has no eliminators for the 07's?

He is using it in closed loop.

As an FYI, I rode with Andy (AK) yesterday and checked out the pipes.  They are throaty but definitely a LOT quieter than the Thunderheader that came off of the bike.  Volume is slightly louder than SE slip-ons.  Riding behind him was a pleasure.  We switched bikes and it is nice.  Bike was very smooth accelerating with no popping at all while slowing down (good job Jim).  I could hear the radio and my wife really enjoyed not being overpowered by noise like she usually is (both of my bikes have the Thunderheaders as well).

Brad said he can do so much more with a SERT than he can with the PC III.  He changes the cold idle start, raises the rev limiter, and thats before he starts the dyno tune.
