Does this mean that Nascar Fans will once again be able to get race coverage on XM?

Candy I just ordered a new one for Punkin. The people I got it from thought the new radios are set up for the change. He wasn't sure what was done on the inside but he said they were gearing up for the change. So I don't know what is going to change. I have Sirius in 2 vehicles it will suck if the boxes under the seat will no longer work.

Yep.  I'm in the same boat.  Thought I read somewhere about "backward compatible," and "a-la-carte."  We'll see.

Candy,
You should  be okay with the radio(s) that you currently have.  They are going to consolidate programing from both XM and Sirius and play the same channels on both satellites.  So when the FCC finally approves the merger, you'll be getting some old Sirius channels on your XM radio (like Howard Stern, NFL Football, etc.) and some old XM channels on your current Sirius radios (like Opie and Anthony, MLB, etc.)  Being the programming will be the same on both satellites, you won't have to buy any new equipment.  However, new equipment coming out will be able to receive both satellites after the merger is approved.  You should see any difference, other than some different channels on your current radio...eventually, they are talking about going ala carte and you pick the package, similar to DirecTV, on what you want to listen too.

Do you think the Opie and Anthony-Howard Stern maybe like mixing gas with fire?

The real question is, will Martha Fricken Stewart be hiding in my radio somewhere? Rollin down the road and change channels to hear her lame account of how Hot Dogs were first introduced to Mac & Cheese... Gimme a break!  :P

When I bought into satellite radio a major selling point was it being commercial free. Am I the only one pissed off about all the commercials now? I bet it only gets worse with a merger!

As a former radio personality and someone in sales, I will offer my humble opinion on your above comment.  Given the subscribership of these two companies it would be difficult to have a total commercial free outlet.  In addition keep in mind a number of channels are broadcast on the open market with commercial breaks.  Commercials pay the bills and the small fee obtained by the limited users could never cover their costs.

As for myself, I have XM and unlike you, I obtained it for the universal signal available since I travel several states.

I hope you dream comes true...we will see soon.
