Special Engine tools help
« on: November 10, 2008, 07:52:06 PM »

Hi All,
I have a PM in to a fella on the forum but have not got a response yet. Yes, i am a bit impatient as it was only a few hours ago, but I need to order the tools so I can get the wife's cam chain tensioners and cams fixed before she has a stroke. The bike is a 06 Street Glide(FLHXI). Anyway the website where I am going to order the tools at is http://www.georges-garage.com/Engine_Tools.htm.  I don't have a press but I could get access to one if it is a necessity. Anyway here is the list of part numbers:
320500
320510
320520
320530
320540
320550
320560
Also add anything to the list that I missed or might be handy for the job.

In Oct 06 I bought the following for my 103 when I changed to gear drive cams-

320500 tensioner unloader tool
320510 camshaft remover and install tool
320520 cam lock tool
320540 inner cam brg puller
320550 inner cam brg installer

That's all I needed besides a hand operated press.
Tell George you are from CVO Harley and he will discount 5% and ship for free.

You have to call him to order and he will know exactly what you need.  If he doesn't answer, leave a message and he calls right back.  Getting the stock exhaust off is the hardest part.  Also, you may have to tap the gear cover off with a rubber mallet as mine was really stuck.  Good luck.

The 320530 is the oil pump alignment studs, and the 320560 is the camshaft bearing remover.
Thanks for the quick response! I needed it. I have looked at http://www.harleyhog.co.uk/index.htm guide, and I am open to anyones helpful hints except let Harley do it, those quacks wanted over a grand to change the tensioners.

If you sent a PM through this site it won't get your tools ordered.  Pretty sure George had a membership here but as sure it never gets used after his first notice a long time ago advising we could get a discount.  His phone is 909 843-7043.  Give him a call and he'll get you taken care of.  He's a good man to work with.

the PM was not to George's, it was to a member asking the same question as above.  :)

OK! Thanks Everyone for your input. My tools are on order from George's Garage with the 5% discount for being a CVOHarley member. The only item on my list that he said I could do without was item #320560 (Camshaft Bearing Puller) saving 101 bucks. He said if I were using new cams there was no need to remove the bearings off the old cams, makes sense to me. The email George sent me follows, it will hopefully assist other members that use the search engine:
Patrick,

Thanks for the email. Sorry for the delay, it's been a long day.

Tools needed for the 06 FLHXI, this set will work for all Big Twins 99 thru 06, except 06 Dyna.

320500 Cam Tensioner Unloader $24.95
320510 Camshaft Remover & Installer $80.50 (needed to do the rear tensioner, press required, also needed to replace the camshafts)
320520 Cam/Crank Gear Locking Tool $24.00
320530 Oil Pump Alignment Screws $17.50/pair

If your going to replace the inner cam bearings, you'll need:
320540 Inner Cam Bearing Remover $77.25
320550 Inner Cam Bearing Installer $71.25

That will do the complete job, engine in or out of the bike, doesn't matter.
If I can be of further assistance, please contact me by email or 909 843-7043.

Thanks, George

Again I thank you all and I thank George also! He is very friendly and helpful and his prices for these tools is great as compared to some other manufacturers I won't mention. Also, He has special tools for the rest of the bike also. Make sure you check with George before you buy another tool, you will probably be happier.

Should you ever need/want to those pump aligment screws he sold you are the same screws used to center up the lifter blocks.

Thanks TwoLaneRider! I will remember that, and there is a good possibility they will be removed during this project.
