Trike versus Sidecar--which is best and why?
« on: December 22, 2005, 11:43:05 PM »

Anyone that's got riding experience on both a Trike and Sidehack wanna give a opinion on which ones the best........easiest to ride, most fun to ride, hardest to park?

This could be real interesting Spyder.  I really don't know if we've got anyone here with much experience with a sidhack or a trike to make the comparisons.  But if we do I'd also be interested in hearing about.

Having no experience one way or the other based solely on what I like the "look and feel" of best I'd choose to ride the bike and sidecar combination.  Just seems like a cooler proposition to me.  Going that way, and with admittedly some effort, the sidecar could be taken by off and it'd be a real motorcycle again if you wanted to go riding.

Great topic Spyder. I have never been on either but the trikes remind me of ice cream carts. I get hungry everytime I see one. ;D

Normal trike converstion on a 06 FLH is $15,000.00 done with paint to match the stock pant [highlight]and of course not the chrome rear end[/highlight].

Well, dang it, you just made that part of the required conversion!  You can't just casually mention a completely chromed out 'hot-rod' rear end and expect this crowd to overlook that.........we'll all suffering OCD Chrome-aholics!  Thanks for all the info in that post, I can't wait to see the completed conversion of the '06 SECU.   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]  spyder

If I had a sidecar I'd also have to a have a bigger dog that had leather doggie goggles and a leather helmet.  And probably a lot of rags for the drool.

Dean,

If you haven't had any offers of assistance, you can email them to me (wynbrks1@aol.com) and I'll post them for ya.

Also, if you want to know how to down load, it is pretty simple.  Right below where you type messages, there is an "Attach" box.  You  can click the Browse button, and it will attach the file/pic to your post.  You can do a post for each picture and the message can be like a short description.

Dean, file sizes will need to be smaller than 1 meg, there are limitations on non alpha or numeric charcters in the filenames, and [highlight]don't hit preview before sending[/highlight][/b][/i].  That will strip the attachment.

Space......got to have space!

It is 1300 sg feet, no support poles. I had them install 22" I-beam( two of them) so their would be no poles to hold it up.

Also had a 10 foot celing so some day I could install stackers if I needed more space.

Got hot water heat in the floor.....you can sit down on your a$$ if need be and still be warm. Once all the floor get to 74 deg it just a big "hot rock" , open the doors to get car out in the -20 deg day and with in 10 mins it's all back to 74.

It only took me 15 years to be able to build the garage with a house hooked on to it!

If you ever build a garage you got to do the hot water heat thing......if you live up north!

Now that is one fine looking SE-Trike...Milwaukee are you boys seeing this ?  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

Like the trikes, more room for 'stuff' and of course there's the ice cream connection. Tried a sidecar a few times, and it's a whole different method of setting up and executing, or trying to, do corners and curves. Dogs love it, and kids fight to get in the car.

Maybe in the far away future when the legs give out ?  [smiley=idea3.gif]

Got hot water heat in the floor
Dean
Hey Dean, If you lose the heat source to the water, will it not freeze and damage the pipes/flooring/etc. due to being insulated in the ground?   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  spyder

Spyder,

No, it is a mix of water and glycol. The tubes are ran up and down the lenght of the floor about 10" apart. The boiler is in the basement (also heats my basement floor the same way) pumps flow it round and round.

My fear has always been if the floor ever cracks and moves , tubes would break , big mess!

the floor was done 6" thick, and the hot water is in zones, with 5 valves for each zone , so if their was a problem I would shut off "that zone" and just not have it running.

But house was built in 92 and have never had a problem with it.........

AHMEN to the radiant heat brother, I got it in mine as well, it's the bomb

2Lane,

Trike's, you can make them any way you can! If they are happy with it .......so be it.

MYCVO,

Parts......you need some parts?........have I got parts!

I have:

Two take off sets from 2000 soft tail Heritage classic. This is from the swingarm back

One set from the 99 Ultra less the bags

One set from the 01 Ultra less the bags

Some left over parts from two V-ROD's

One set from the 04 SEEG complet   was a black/blue

One set from 05 CVO Fat Boy  Complet   ( I am takeing this one apart this weekend)  Red one

And the complet set from the current 06 USE.  Also have all the "tins" from this bike. I did not match the paint on our body this time. I am haveing the whole bike custom painted. I just could not strip the factory paint off so I bought all new tin's from Harley in primmer and had them painted.

So I have as a set all the body parts. I don't want to part out the tins , I want to sell as a set only.

We also have MANY other Harley take off parts in sets at the shop. We have 5 demo bikes we use at all the shows we goto and most all of them are at the shop in boxes complet but I just cant think of the years....
The demo bikes get sold after two years and we than make new set of demo bikes.

Current demo bikes we have are :
06 Classic   swingarm back complet
04 Classic   "                             "
05 Road Glide "                          "
05 Dyna         "                          "

All the bike from above had 15-200 miles on them when we took apart. So no chips/dings ect on them.

If anything gets you going let me know.......

I am in Chicago IL, can ship by ups and truck.

Dean,
That's damn good to know. Not that I want to jinx myself, but I'm interested in the parts you have for the 04 FLHTCSE. One never knows if a bag might get screwed up by whatever, and to have a stand-by set would be ideal.
PM me with some sort of price that you can come up with. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
Thanks
Mark

You got to have some kind of storage in that shop Bro. Damn I'm green with envy
