GPS addon for the Retarded Audio System
« on: July 31, 2006, 08:28:46 AM »

I'm intrigued by the GPS addon.  As far as I can see the only physical thing that gets fitted to the bike is the GPS antenna, which plugs into the rear of the radio.  There doesn't seem to be a modlue like the CB, XM, or Bluetooth.  So is the GPS addon enabled simply by plugging in the antenna and loading the maps CD?  I can't believe that's all you get for over $1000; even for the MoFoMoCo, that is breathtaking!

Anyone got it fitted to an 06 who knows?

It's a module added to your Audio system. Display is the face of the radio. The Handel mount is for 05 and eailer models.

I don't believe it is an add-on module, Vazhog - as I say, as far as I can see, the only physical add-on is the GPS antenna, and there's no mention of it being a module on that web page.... It's unique to the HK audio system too - the handlebar mount GPS that HD list is an entirely different system.

JIM:
Navigation Module has to to added to the HK Just as the XM & Bluetooth have to be added. The GPS Attenna is also added as well.

If you have the (2006 HD Electrical Dagnostic Manual) 99497-06 page 6-57 shows the flow chart for tbl shooting the NAV Module that is seated into the HK Radio- So the 1000 + gets you the module and the Attenna and as always installation is EXTRA :)

GPS Displays on the HK LCD screen pf the HK 06 & 07 Models add a GPS (HD) System to any other Radio and you will need to add the Display Screen to your Handelbar mount as the older radio's do not have a display screen hence the different Part Numbers and types.

Hope that clears it up for you. NO I don't have one installed aand I don't think I will at this late stage in my life as with all the techno junk I have to keep up with now I enjoy being lost and unaware of where I'm going. Ride safe.

Thanks Vazhog - does it say where the module mounts?  There are just the two locations, from memory (somebody correct me if I'm wrong here!) on top of the radio for mounting modules, one for the XM and one for the CB.  Also, the wiring diagram doesn't show a GPS module either, just the GPS antenna.

Reason for my query is to try to work out how the GPS sound is triggered....

I looked at in the Service manual and the electric manul and the supplement manual, I have not remove the fairing or seen the back of this radio However based on the service manual picture and Pg 105 of the electric manual The Navigation Module is Seated and screwed into the radio Where I'm not sure (You have to buy the GPS to get the installation instruction) They are not in the owner manual or any of the service manuls (Pictures)

It is then Connected to a Interconnect Cable (thats how the audio gets into the system ( You then slect how you want out put to speakers or headset.  the attena attaches to the GPS module and is place inside the fairing. Then you load the map cd and if it all works well you should see some sats. in 5 to 10 minutes if not then relocate the motorcycle.

Sorry I can't be more help! When you Get one let me know how it works. Good luck

The NAV operation for the Advanced Audio System is through a 'module' that gets slid into the radio after removing a plate on the rear of the unit. The antenna lead then plugs into this module.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]The slick thing about this unit is its ability to break into the music you're listening to and give you voice information regarding upcoming direction changes.

Also... IMHO...  [smiley=soapbox.gif] The 'Alternative Brand Motorcycle' is inappropriate to show here over and over. There must be an ABM site somewhere.
