How far do you get...?
« on: October 30, 2006, 11:19:58 AM »

How many miles do you get out of our 4.5 gal tank?

We know that mileage will vary based on engine mods, exhaust and riding style, but I generally get about 175 miles from a full tank, which is about 38 mpg.

How does that compare to yours?

FXR tanks are more like 4.0 to 4.2 gallon capacity.  You need to divide the miles travelled since the last fill up by the number of gallons required to refill the tank and not by the size of the tank.

I monitor my fuel mileage closely.  During warm, prime riding weather, and with sensible riding habits, I get 48 to 52 MPG.  With cooler temperatures or "liberal throttle usage" fuel mileage can drop to around 45 MPG.  I averaged 49.6 MPG on a 2,800 mile trip to Colorado Springs and back the week after Labor Day.  Most of that was at 65 MPH or more with a big Convertible windshield installed.  Not bad for an EVO that drinks regular.

Yep, checked O.M. - it is 4.2 US Gal capacity (including reserve, which is .4 US Gal's)
