LED 1156 and 1157s
« on: December 26, 2014, 11:21:58 AM »

Any one know of LED versions of 1156 and 1157s that don't require a load equalizer? I want to change the bulbs in the 15 CVO Limited and my 08 Softail Custom.

You are not likely to find an LED flashing bulb that does not require a load equalizer (resistor) to work properly.  Most systems used the resistance of the bulb to know the bulb is working.  The LEDs lack this resistance and thus the system reports a failed bulb by flashing double time.  It's really not a problem, however.  Most load equalizers are very easy to install and simply crimp on to existing wires.  I have used the ones from Kuryakyn which come with very simple instructions.  Hope this helps.

I just installed custom dynamics dynamic rings. The website says they don't need load equalizers, the odd thing is, they flash at correct speed, but dash light flashes like there's a light out. I don't guess there's any real issue unless you're just annoyed by the rapid flash.

I've read other posts where you just have to try them and see how the bike handles them. Some work fine some don't. Do some designs work better than others? Some look like a bunch of small bulbs at the tip and others look like a bunch of microchips mounted on the sides and tip.

FYI, you might not have this problem, but I just had a Kuryakyn Brake/Run/Turn - load equalizer unit go bad on me. I have since removed it, gone back to filament bulbs, and no more problems.

Not trying to change your mind, just giving you my experiences with LEDs and such.

on the 15, use what you want.  you don't need a load equalizer on that one....

Also. I don't know why the rear likes look like that on video. Maybe has something to do with iPhone camera. They don't look like that to the eye

So the newer bikes are more likely to accept the LED bulbs without problems?

Any idea on which style of LED bulb is better? The one with mini looking bulbs on the end or the microchip looking ones?

Correct, 14 / 15 bikes do not need a load equalizer.  It does take a little while for the insturment turnsignal indicators to return to normal speed.  The system has to learn the new load.

I have custom dynamics led front and rear on my 15 CVO road glide ultra, flashes normal after a few hundered miles.

Put them in my wifes 15 Road glide special, again everything flashes normal after a couple hundered miles.

I think custom dynamics is the best Choice for LED used them since 12 on my bikes

Good to hear they'll return to normal. Because when I first installed then they did flash normal at first. I'd also have to agree, custom dynamics would be the best choice imo. I actually don't think I know anyone running any other brand.

Custom Dynamics is a great choice. Put them on my 15 SESG. Flashed funny at first but the directions said to put the hazards on for five minutes so the system learns the new lights. Did that and they worked perfect.

Installed the CD setup in my '15 today. Both front and rear. Turned on the hazards for maybe 30 seconds and all is well. Damn things are very bright. Should have done it on the last bike.
