Title: Custom Mustang arrived today
Post by: Sidecar Dan on July 19, 2013, 07:27:20 PM
I ordered a Mustang "Vintage Solo" from AMI a few weeks ago.  They worked with me on this for a few weeks.  We tried finding a thread that matched the "stock seat" but everything they had was too YELLOW  :bananarock: So I ended up just asking them to do WHITE.  I think it looks great if not better than stock.  There is no other "stitching" on the Sissy bar/ rear backrest that matches the seat, so it didn't have to be the same.  That said:  I just couldn't take the stock seat anymore.  It was too thin and without a backrest it wasn't much good.  The cost to redo the seat to add the backrest wasn't worth it to me.  I've had a Mustang for years on my 92' softail and it's the only way it makes it bearable to ride.  Can't argue with success.  I'll post a few pics.  I'm 6'2" 240lbs.  I need a backrest!

Very, very nice!  Not only did Mustang match the diamond stitch pattern, it looks better than stock.  HD could learn a few things from another Made-in-the-USA brother company Mustang (and Corbin for that matter) when it comes to seat and comfort.

Totally agree! H-D stock seats suck.

That seat looks great, and it's a Mustang, so it will be comfortable! They have the BEST backrest design in the industry I think... it's adjustable up/down, back/forward, the head swivels on the post, and it can be pulled right off... all with no tools, right on the bike, in seconds. I like the backrest on my Mustang Wide Vintage much better than the one on my Corbin DualTour.

CONGRATS! :2vrolijk_21:!

Just got off the phone with Mustang and they told me they couldn't do the Vintage Solo with White stitching, they were a month away from being able to do that???  :nixweiss:    I told her I could send her some photos from the CVO site, that it is being done... She was going to talk to some people and get back to me.

We'll see...2 hours later

They just call back and told me they could do it! 2-3 week lead time.  ;D ;D

Nothing like guilting them into doing it!  :)  So I don't know if they will love me or hate me...but they should love us!  This ain't a "free" seat!  .....Good luck.  That's about what it took for mine!

Did you find that it added height? I put a Mustang on a 98 EG and found it raised me up 3/4-1 inch. Ended up taking off the bumpers underneath, adding thin carpet to save the paint, and ended up with a really comfortable saddle.

It's thicker for sure...but it doesn't make my butt fall asleep in a half an hour.  Any "UP" while it may feel odd on day one....wasn't an issue when my ass didn't feel like it had needles jammed into it.  I'd say it sits you up and with the backrest in you are not farther back, but I don't have solid numbers, that's just my seat of the pants feeling.  NO pun intended.

I did have to take the bumpers off the pillion seat: because of the fender trim/rubber, but not the solo.  Over all...the reason this seat is more comfortable is because it's thicker.

I LOVE this seat!  Period.
