I know I've mentioned it on here but thought I'd throw out an update for anyone interested.
Lumbar fusion of L4 and L5 this past Tues (11/30) to fix these issues in my lower back. Doc said things went great and the healing is starting. I can say the left sciatic pain is gone for sure. Just have to get past the surgical pain now. It got so bad this year that I don't think I totaled 500 miles between the two bikes. Here's hoping for a better year this coming year.

Good to hear. Hopefully before too long it'll all be in the rear view mirror!
Onward and upward.

Great news, thanks for the update! :2vrolijk_21:

Congratulations! Back issues are never fun.

Good luck Mike, you've been in pain for almost as long as I've know you.
-
Sounds like it was successful! I hope you heal up so we can ride next year! All though I have to have a mri on my right knee Tuesday it never ends

Get well soon Mike. I know all about a bad back. I live with mine every day. I'm happy you should be pain free soon and a little envious too. Stuart 😊

I had back surgery.....they shaved the discs of L4 and L5. Even after that I sold my 2010 CVO Street Glide in about 2012 thinking I wasn't going to be able to ride anymore.
Andy kept telling me that I just needed a different set up. Going from the Street Glide back to an Ultra Classic with back rest after a couple of years, I was surprised that I could ride again, for hours, without any back issues. Eventually I bought the 2013 Ultra Classic and matching Bushtec trailer and rode it from Matthews, NC to San Diego in 2 1/2 days without any back issues.
Hopefully you'll experience similar success after your healing. You will need to be much more aware of what you can and can't do and I can tell you that you can't do what you did when you were a 20 yr. old....not even what you did as a 30 or 40 yr. old. Be kind to yourself.....let the youngsters do it! Good luck with it.
Additionally, I drove my F-150 750 miles day before yesterday and 907 miles yesterday without any back issues. I'll be driving another 217 miles today, hooking up my new toy hauler.....a 2021 Grand Design Momentum 21G.....and heading back to Tucson. I'm optimistic that I'll arrive back in Tucson without any back issues.

Mike, great to hear the surgery went well. I'm glad the pain from the sciatic on left side is gone. Hopefully pain for surgery will be goon soon also. Hopefully by the time it gets nice enough to ride up there, you will be ready to ride.

Congrats on the successful surgery. Recovery is slow. Follow the guidance of the physical therapist to the letter and you’ll have a very successful oitcome.

Mike, I hate that you had to have surgery. I am however glad that you're already feeling good results. praying for continued & speedy recovery. hope to see you again, soon. ( maybe in Ohio this summer) Take care ! God Bless You ! :2vrolijk_21:

Update time.
First follow up visit today with the surgeon. Xrays look great and He's pleased with the healing so far. 4 more weeks of wearing the brace while up and around. He suggested walking as much as I can. I'm allowed to drive but that's about it. We're talking some PT when I go back in 4 weeks to see Him. I've got some pretty wicked pix of staples in my back and also of the xrays He took today but I'll keep them on my phone and not bore you guys with that chit.
For our warm weather friends, Get down the road a bit and have a cold one for me. It'll be April at the earliest before I can get mine out again due to this back and the snow is about to fly.
-
Mike, that is good news about the progress. When the rain lets up I'll go for a ride for you and have a cold one.

Sounds like a great prognosis / progress.
My wife has been through 5 spinal surgeries and working on #6 when all her blood works settles to the doc's opinions.
Not easy and never will be - just don't screw up the surgeons work.

Back to the Dr today. He said everything is great. Come back in 3 months. I'm released to work light duty for 6 weeks and probably back to full duty after that. The sciatic pain is gone. I'm still healing up so I'm a little tender here and there but overall I'm 95% better than what the hell I was. I'm definitely looking forward to putting more than 500 miles on my bike this year.
