hidden antenna?
« on: January 25, 2007, 10:45:18 PM »

The antenna wire on the 06 Street Glide broke where it goes into the back of the radio. Dealership wants the bike for at least 1 month to install new antenna wire. NO

I know this has been discussed to death but what is the best hidden antenna for the Harmon Kardon radio and who is the best to get one from.

Why the @#$%^&* would they need the bike for a month? If they don't have the part in stock, order it, when it comes in make an appointment to have it installed. What should it take a day at the most to disassemble/reassemble some things to trace the wire from antenna to radio?

I think w/given a few tools even I could get it replaced in shorter time (month) then that, and you all know how mechanically challenged I am.

They said Harley would want to have the antenna wire back to determine the cause of the break before they would allow a warranty claim.

Told them the wire would stay in the bike and would order a hidden antenna and that they could take care of the bill for it.

Hi hogasm,
Talk to Brian in the service dept. at Southside Harley in Va. Beach.
I had my bike in for some work when my antenna connection fell apart in the tech's hand. They did not have the wire or connector in stock but they managed to express ship in the stuff in one day. They asked me to leave the bike in the shop overnight so they would not have to reinstall the fairing. It came in the next day and was replaced with no charges. I think they had said they had seen the problem once before on an 06. So I was in and out in 24 hours.
They also have the inside the fairing antenna and can install that if you choose.

Hate to say it after spending the doh on it, but the Eglide Goodies hidden antenna is a dud.  Tried using it for my cross-country trip and ended up listening to CDs most of the time :'(

Except in CT, N.Y., N.J. and PA, where the bridges and potholes made my CD skip [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Gonna try the tune trapper before I button up the DF for good.  Dakota gauge fixed, and Clearview in on Monday...

You guys who have had good results with the Tune Trapper are lucky. Mine sucks. I went back to my mini crappy looking antenna. I may try installing it again the next time I have my fairing off as maybe I didn't have it 1/2"-3/4" away from any metal. :nixweiss:

I had a bike here in the shop that had a Tune Trapper and I forgot to pay attention to how it worked. The owner of the bike really liked it. :-\

I have a new Tune Trapper if anyone wants one. $25 plus shipping. I bought it to use on my ultra but could not find a good option to cover the unused antenna on the tour pack so I went with two JM shorties. I have no idea how they work since I never installed it. PM if interested.
