+3 degree raked neck bearings
« on: August 14, 2007, 05:13:16 AM »

Well Speedy inspired me, but still no where as radical as the 9 degrees Speedy has. I could not go any more as it was a battle to keep the tins as it was. But it turned out OK, I also went +4 fork tubes. My front wheel is now about 4 inches further forward than stock. It probably rides & handles better than before. I have a couple of pics but will take some better ones later. Just ordered another set of new 1-3/4inch T-Bars. I have also replaced my stock speedo with an 2007 SERK one which is actually a speedo/tacho, so I am now able to remove the stock tacho & fit the new 1-3/4 bars with the intergrated risers. 1-3/4 (44mm) bars will be awesome I can't wait. Hope to have them on for "Bike Week".

Cheers

Hey Guys,

Man, I'm still trying to get my build up to par, and you're exploring rake and extensions. How do you all expect me to catch up?

Wow is right Altugo.

I think it probably handles better than before, this was one of my biggest fears but it has turned out great I clocked up 200km (120miles) on Sunday & had an awsome ride.

Aussie, did you have to modify anything to get the 2007 SERK speedo/tach to fit/work with your console? My dealer told me that it wouldn't work with my bike...

Have had the 200 fat tire kit for more than a year now but recently got a Baker DD6 to suit the conversion so I do hope to find time to do it all soon!

What model bike do you have?

I did a bit of research before I ordered the 07 speedo/tacho as the book said it did not suit my model. But I could not find any reason why it would not so I ordered one & it fitted right in the same as the stock one (plug & play you might say) to this day the only reason I can come up with for the MoCo saying it does not suit my model is the fact that the 07 one has a 6th gear light to show when you are in 6th. Big deal mine just wont light up! (WOW! I can live with that) & you dont even know it is there anyway.

Cheers
Aussie

PS: Most dealers don't think outside of the square!

I see you have an 06 fatboy & as far as I can tell apart from the 200 rear they are the same as the 05 mechanically & electically so I am sure you can just fit the 07 speedo/tacho to yours as well. Just send the milage you have on your now (or add a few miles if you are going to clock a few up in the next week or 2) as they send them calibrated.

My OCD is so bad that when I changed mine I had to go to imperial (MPH) to suit my American Made Harley Davidson. My Harley did not need a metric speedo.
So now when I am doing 100MPH I am doing 100MPH, not 160KPH!

I am still looking for the cure for OCD, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Aussie, I am looking into the SERK speedo/tach...will keep you posted.

As far as the raked forks go: I saw the picture of the kit you used...was there anything more you needed to do the install? I want my guy to do the raked forks, but want to make sure there are no surprises...

THANKS, RIC

Well once again the manafacturer says the fork cup kit does not work on Fatboys if you want to keep your tins. The reason they say this is because your top & bottom tripple trees are spread about 1.5 inches further apart than stock (you ca see this in my first photo. As I also used longer fork tubes for this project I needed longer slider covers. Therefore I was able to cut the old ones down to about 1.5 inches long & fit them upside down at the top of the new ones ( see photos) As I already had a chrome piece (from the MoCo that that dresses up the bottom of the tripple trees I simply welded a front vertical face on it approx 1.5 inches high had it rechromed (see photo 2) this then slipped up behind the bottom of my nacelle. The other thing was that now the bottom hole of the nacelle or stock headlight tin now had nothting to fix the bolt into (as the hole was now 1.5 inches  higher) So to fix this I just used a set of turn signal relocation brackets clamped to the forks but fitted them back to front, then drilled a hole through them & just put a 1/4 nut on the inside so the nacelle bottom bolt worked nicely. The only other thing was a longer brake hose to suit my 4 inch overs fork tubes. This might sound like a bit of work but it was not that bad.

Cheers
