Polished Wheels
« on: March 10, 2005, 12:31:04 PM »

Has anyone had any problems keeping the wheels clean.  What is everyone doing to maintain the polished look??

Have you tried having them coated with silicone or a product called Boeshield.  I believe this product was developed by Boeing to protect aluminum.  Not sure but have heard of people trying to put silicone on them to make them easier to clean.

I have an 03 Fatboy and like the solid wheel look and was thinking of these.  Anyone else have an opinion, either good or bad!!!

Keeping the brake dust off is a must as MFG said but these wheels are a pain to keep clean. If you have any experience with any protection products you know for sure that will work please let us know. I've had polished center lines and motor wheels on race cars in the past and not even dealing with serious brake dust  they also were work to keep kleen.

My goal for next year is to either have these chromed or get another set of chrome billit wheels giving me the option to fit up with dual rotors on the front, I've about maxed out my wife's patients with the accessories added for this year.

i use simichrome http://www.marbeck.com/cleaners_household_simichrome.html      then i  wipe the bike and wheels down  with triple M  its a cleaner and carnuba wax all in one..  the simichrome  will take out  swirls and minor defects on yer chrome & wheels.. plus it claims to have a protection built into it     [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I am using a product called White Diamond all metal polish. I had tried to clean my wheels one time using mothers chrome polish and was left with a dull hazy finish. This white Diamond product made them better than new again.

I use Gord`s aluminum chrome polish. Cleans and shines in one step non abrasive.

Winter is a pain in the rear with the salt and sand dusted roads. Remove the salt dust as soon as you can after a day of riding. Micro fiber tows from SAM'S CLUB and Harley glaze seems to be working fairly good on these polished nightmare for the quick fix.

ok another thousand miles since I cleaned my rims last and tried cleaning them again, now you can see every blemish and scratch and they look like chit! The best cleanser would be in my opinion, junk this rim buy a chrome one!

Oh yeah!  Polished rims look good when all shiny but are 'high maintenance' for sure.  Keeping a protective coating of polish residue from a good polish like Semichrome on them will help, but still 'high maintenance'.   :P  spyder

polished aluminum sucks, if it isnt chrome forget about keeping it looking good.
i had thoes rims a few years back, and vowed never to buy a bike with them again.
i would seriously consider getting them chromed or get the roadwinders!

cheers  [smiley=drink.gif]
