Depending on what bars you decide on will determine the need to change cables. I installed a set of Chubby 10.5" apes on AK's 09 Serg and was able to use the stock cables with minor re-routing.

Jim, do you know if the new SERGs use the same or similar bars to the old SERGs?  When I changed the bars on the old one here last summer it also got the 10.5" W1 bars you used on Andy's bike.  On it had to tinker with the routing a bit of the clutch cable.  Everything else was fine.  Sounds like the old and new bikes must start with at least the same length cables from your description and the comparison of the two.

I had the Wild1 WO517's installed on my 09' SERG and the stock cables were used but the clutch cable had to be re-routed.

When I first got my bike I didn't ride along distance so didn't think much about the angle of handlebars, but after I made a trip to the Roosters this summer around 1700 miles total, my wrists were killing me the angle was just wrong. So today I Had Jim ( hd-dude) stall a set of Chubby 8.5" apes on my 09 Serg. The ride home is close to a hundred miles what a difference in the angle of the bars, I had no wrist pain at all.

Glad they work well for you Don, here is a pic..Showing off the new Hawg-Wired Grilles as well. These grilles are availible from Hawg-Wired in a black steel mesh. They are the same material as they have had for years for the Electra-Glides. I wanted to see what they looked like in Chrome so I sent a set out for plating 8).

I'll answer the question for Jim YES they do fit just have to do a little rerouting of the cable and the wiring, I have the 8.5's AK put on the 10.5's and still was able to use the stock ones.

How much more pull back are on these 517 compaired to the SERG bars?

Are these 517's the same width as the stock SERG bars?

How about rise?

Thanks

I think the pullback is about 4" and the rise is about the same. I will see if I can take a picture later today with the stock handlebars on top of the 517's, the difference is dramatic. I have heard opinions on the internet that the 517's are like a wheelbarrel handle and that may be somewhat true. I ride with a relaxed hand grip position and the 517's are very comfortable for me.

Here is a pic of how the bars are measured

The 517's have an 8.5" rise, 31" width, and a 14.5" pullback.

I have reported the "wheel barrel" like feel of these bars. Personally I do not like them. Most customers have chose the 8" (513) , 10.5" (515), or 12(502)" apes over the 517's.
