Angels and Demons
« on: April 28, 2009, 07:04:02 PM »

Last Thursday I had a group of friends who were on their way to the Laughlin River Run. During the trip a couple of my less intelligent friends determined to evaluate the size of their manhood with their speedometer meter. While they were running side by side at about 110 mph. One of them developed speed wobbles. The bike in question happens to be a 2009 CVO Ultra,  Blue and Silver.  At about the same speed he viered off the highway and onto the dirt median adjacent to the steel guard rail. At this time he involuntarily vacated the seat of his ride leaving the bike to do its own thing.  The individuals following stated that the accident looked like a mini H-bomb with Harley parts flying into the air for up to 100 feet from the crash site.  My friend landed on the dirt which is somewhat more forgiving than the black top, missed the guard rail by a couple of feet and came to rest a distance from his bike.  He was treated at the site by the local CHP and various other emergency service providers prior to being air lifted out to the closest hospital. By some miracle he was released from the hospital later that evening with some large bruises and bumps but no really serious injuries and not one broken bone in his body. Later that week end he was up walking around and discussing the accident with friends and family. I guess it goes to show us that sometimes the Angels have the ability to win over the Demons in life.

Glad the angels :engel017: were at least there on his landing, he's one lucky throttle jockey  !

Lessons learned:
1. He got a pass on this one, but man is that ever one seriously dinged up CVO.
2. They still haven't cured the hi-speed wobble in baggers and they're not designed for anyting over 90 - 95mph. Supposedly that's one reason (aside from cost) that cops are going away from HD.

Glad he's OK, but man what a lesson to all of us. What model was the other bike?

The combination of the batwing fairing and the lowers provide lift at high speed on a full dress bagger.  The wobble starts when there is no downforce on the front wheel.

Is that a fact backed up by valid information or just an opinion?
If presented as a fact I would like to see the data to back up that claim.

Likely the whole bike will belong to the insurance company.  However, if he gets to it first and wants to sell the highway pegs and/or the XM module, I would be interested as well.
