Bad as Hell axle cap....
« on: July 07, 2012, 09:08:19 PM »

Got myself the flush axle, wheel spacers and 'Bad as Hell' cap from Puzzled on this site. Excellent all around from purchase right to delivery. Nice stuff. Thanks Mike.

All good up until putting the BAH cap on the right side. The nuts are 3/8", no problem, except you need a 3/8", 12 point, deep socket.
Do you guys actually have one of these in your tool boxes?? Talk about an oddball socket. I have a deep 3/8", but sure not 12 point. All my 12 points are normal depth.
Are people swapping the nuts out to something else? Is there some trick to this I'm not getting?
I've been online all over looking for a place who might carry one. I will be in the US of A tomorrow....my last resort will be Harbor Freight in Bellingham, WA.
I've even thought about putting a 'sleeve' over the stud on the fork slider to take up some space so I can tighten up the 12 point without a deep socket.

Got it......shimmed it with another couple of washers. The extra 2 mm I picked up was all it required.
Must be the brand of 12 point sockets I have.

Sears (Craftsmen) has 12pt deep sockets. I don't recall needing a deep socket when I installed mine

I removed the long bolts that threaded into the fork leg...
I then bought some allen head socket bolts and am using them successfully for a very long time now...
rather then the 12pt socket nut

Be careful when running the new bolts in and out of the lowers as there is the potential to mess up the aluminum leg.

I'd seek out the correct socket before removing the studs. Just a preference, no scientific or critical data to suggest one way is better than the other.
