'07 o2 sensor socket?
« on: October 27, 2006, 10:20:51 AM »

I was reading the 07 service manual and saw there is a special socket HD-48262 for use on the o2 sensor.   Has anybody removed/replaced their o2 sensor with normal tools and if so what did you use?

(I'm planning for the replacement of my exhaust when Thundermax is released  ... I would assume that zippers won't send you a tool to remove/replace the sensors....)

Billy-I think your O2 sensor should have a hex head at the base-probably metric.

nixobilly,

You should be able to remove and install the sensors on the bike with a regular 22mm or 7/8" combination wrench, since they aren't hard to get to.

sensor sockets for sensors with wires and plugs need the side to be milled out, or use a box wrench. The $$ is because they mill it for you. Get a inexpensive socket and cut the side for the wire to come out.

The kit in hdfatboy's photo looks to be the same one you can borrow for free at Auto Zone.

Jerry-
Thanks too for the AutoZone tip.  dOOd and Jerry-some fellows like tools and chrome (not necessarily in that order).   By the way dOOd, this site will ruin anybody.   :)   (but in a good way)

I got a standard 7/8" O2 socket at National Auto for $7.95.

Used it this weekend and it worked like a charm.

Be sure to get the new seal washers for when you re-install them.
