Me-Praise The Lord I am ok!
« on: June 14, 2014, 09:19:33 PM »

Like others have stated, never figured I would post under this heading but here I am.  As the title stated "Praise the Lord I am ok"..  I am happy I am able to post this myself and not by someone else.

Was riding home from work on Thursday, June 5th at 5:20pm on a 2lane country road and 3 cars were approaching from the other direction and the 2nd car suddenly decided to pass the 1st car on a double yellow line in a slight curve-45 mph road.  Needless say we collided and the 2010 SEUC was totalled by my insurance company (State Farm) a couple days ago.

I was able to call OhioDave and another Bob (with a trailer) and they were there within minutes of the accident.  The squad looked me over (did not go with them) but OhioDave took me later to the ER where they xrayed my right foot (not broken) and cleaned my wounds.   Dave, Bob, and another fellow loaded the bike to Bob's trailer-not easy to do when the front forks and fender were pushed back into the down tubes and the front tire would not turn.

My wife and daughter were in northern California visitng my wife's sister and I did not tell them of the accident until 4 days later.  I pick them up at the airport tonight after typing this.

The Harley mesh jacket did it's job as well as the 3/4 Arai helmet.  Wished I had my riding boots on and jeans but had on cheap work pance and work shoes.

Right foot still swollen but at least I have it.  More sore now than after it happened where abrasions healing.

Now I have to deal with the value of my  totalled bike with insurance company.

Talk with my wife and daughter and see if they want to ride again.  If they won't, I am probably done as my wife rides her own bike.   When I physically got off this lucky this acident, you wonder if there is a next time if you would fare as well.   Nakes you think.

Then, if I do get another bike, do you get a 2014 or wait til September on a 15 or just buy a 2010 or later used one.  A lot to deal with/ponder.

Don't really want to talk about the accident and won't post any pictures.

Thanks for listening.  Thanks for a gracious  God.

Everyone be careful out there-Bob

I'm sorry about your accident Bob and glad you are OK. We all have to go sometime and that can happen any where, any time, driving, flying, walking, standing, etc. Hope you get back in the saddle I would rather die doing what I love then give it up because I might be killed. I'd stop driving my car to work or to get groceries, etc of I gave it too much thought.

Geez, glad you're okay.  It's amazing you walked away, from the sound of it.

When I got rear ended last year, I didn't feel anything until later.  Found out later I had a broken foot and some deep road rash.  Thank heaven for adrenaline.

I noticed that I'm a bit more anxious on the road now... maybe it's better, because I am more careful.

Ride again or not, old bike or new; or none, to heck with all of it.  Just glad you're ok Bob.  Be well and heal fast.

I will second that...Glad you are OK and we'll enough to post this.  Hope you survive not telling the wife about it for 4 days. I would be more worried about that than another road accident.  God was watching and keeping you from major harm. As smky stated, He is the best insurance you can have.

Wasn't sure you were going to say anything on here Bob,,,  the most important thing is that you will heal up and be ok.  That's also the best thing,,   Keep feeling better.    Whatever you decide,,your call.    Whatever is best for you.     Best thing,, like you said,,  all of you is still here.  And that's the best thing.    Feel better.   Stuart.

Glad you were able to walk away from this. I think it's a natural thought process to ponder not riding again. I think a lot of that decision lies within where you are in your riding experience as well. I still have many places I want to visit with my bike, with my wife with me. So I would probably get back in the saddle. But had I visited all the places I want to, perhaps I would hang up my helmet. Whatever you decide, it will be the right decision for you. The most important thing is you're still here and 100% functional
