A different kind of muffler question. Yeah, Right
« on: December 14, 2006, 12:12:44 AM »

In the old days, when we went from the stock 88" to a 95", we all went with free flowing mufflers so the engine could breath better, more air in, more air out, right?

Now the new stock bikes come stock with a TC 96, up from 88. They also come with the "newer improved" exhaust system. They claim it flows better, and it does sound that way. Has any one checked, or does anyone know if these mufflers are really free flowing? Would the mufflers off a newer stock 96" work well enough on an older 95" engine? Do they flow enough to work with a 95"?

Just curious.

As I understand it, the problem with the stock 07 standard or Non CVO mufflers is they are different from each other.  They were designed to work specifically with the stock crossover. The right side has a Z type baffle and the left side is much more straight and open. So as long as they were being used on the stock headers, all would be good. This info came from the fullsac guy who posts over on V-Twin forum and has taken many of these mufflers apart to re-core them. He also said that the 07's make very good donor mufflers due to the new outer packing.
