Met a guy at the weekend at the Fenlanders Rally here in the UK who had fitted auxiliary lights to his FLHRSE6. I love the look and am saving up to get them for mine. What does everyone think?
Anyone fitted them? Are they easy to wire in?

I have fitted aux lights on my 13 rk and I also moved the indicators off the handlebars and mounted them under the driving lights. imho I think it looks much better(see pic) and fills the front end in, and of course adds more shiny bling !!!! :)
-
Sorry forgot to say, they are very easy to wire in. All the wiring for the aux switch is right there in the headlamp.

This is my rendition of the 2013 CVO RoadKing. I went old school. The aux switches on the back of the headlamp nacelle are shunted, all the wiring is there all you have to do is a quick splice. Don't forget to seal it with the heat shrink wrap for waterproofing. I took the bullet turn indicators off completely when I changed out the handlebars.
-
It looks like the windscreen has to go away in order to mount the daymaker lights on the 2014. Is this correct?

The windscreen fits with aux lights installed.
-
Love the lights. Was the turn signal relocation a separate part? Would you be kind enough to supply part numbers?
Thanks.
Joe

The indicators were removed from the handlebars by disconecting the wiring in the headlight nacelle and pulling them slowly out of the handlebars and the switch housings (not difficult but you need to go slow to avoid damaging the wiring)
I then was able to reuse the indicators and wiring complete and mount them on the new aux light brackets.
I am sorry I cant find the invoice with the part numbers but the brackets were the same ones as on the cvo ultra and the aux lamps are standard four and a half inch Harley issue but of course trim rings and light units are extras..
If I can find the invoice with part numbers on I will post them asap.
Also as stated in one of the above posts there is no problems with windscreen fitment (I have 3 different types and they all fit and dismount as normal)

I posted this in a prior discussion but this is what I (or rather, my local dealer) used:
73396-10A: Aux, lamps led 4 inch
69227-04A: custom passing lamp bracket kit
69230-04: Amber t/s kit for custom aux
69235-04: hc-hardware kit
73191-96 (8 of those): hc-receptacle, contact, 20-1
69200897: kit-wire harness, led hdlamp
68355-05: wire harness (2 of those)
68331-02: nest ring passing/pursuit lamp
68725-62A: (2 of those) ring, bezedl, lamp
Total of around $800 in parts + 380 labor.
Hope it helps

Looks nice. Which windscreen is that? I am thinking about ditching the windsplitter.

Regular road king windscreen. Fits perfectly. I used the one from my 2003 Road king classic.

Yeah, my dealer quoted me about $1000 to install. Use '13 parts with a little rigging.... I'm gonna do it... but just put pipes and dyno... so gotta save for a bit first! Looks AWESOME with the aux lights... disappointing they didn't include on the CVO... its kinds "part" of the Road King!
-
Really nice setups... I need to see what I do with mine.
For now I just have the Custom Dynamics Turn Signals/Aux Lights LEDs

Just taken the plunge and purchased all the necessary kit. One quick question. If you relocate the turn signals from the bars to the auxiliary light mounts what happens to the wiring coming from the turn signal switch gear. Must admit I haven't fully read the instructions yet but they probably won't tell me anything anyway!

Just seen this bike on eBay. Is this the best way to run the wiring? Surely there is a neater way of doing it? Has anyone else fitted these and found a better solution?

It was installed the same way on mine. I no longer have a close up picture but you can still see the wiring on this one. As you can see I added LED mirrors as well but later on.

If there was not a cleaner way to do the wiring I would not do it.
I moved my turn signals down, with out passing lamps and its very hard to see the wires.
No wires visible. Had to notch the windshield mounting bracket to clear the wire, then ran the ran the wire in a hole drilled in the metal so that it is almost impossible to see the wire. Instructions would have had the wire very visible.

Wtf!! Surely not, those wires are pig ugly!
Always thought they are as the picture below and the wire runs inside the fitting and then through the headstock so they are invisible, they are on the ultra limited etc.
I would seriously question this my friend ( might be acceptable on jap cr#p but not on our pony's) :'(

Yeah! I have postponed my appointment until I can speak to the tech! No way I spend $40k on a bike then have wires sticking out all over the place!

You have caught me in my garage scratching my head looking at the brackets and trying to work out options

Have just installed a bracket to see what my options are and am none the wiser. I can't see a way of not having very visible wiring whilst still being able to use the windshield? The bracket does have a recess to accommodate the wires but you still have to get round the windshield bracket and into the back of the nacelle. It's tempting to install them just for looks and not power them up but that would be stupid. Hope these pics show my dilemma clearly?

If that is the case... get some fire/abrasion resistant cover to put the wires in... makes it look better while protecting the wires. I used this on mine:
You insert two pieces of heat shrinking tube at each end, the protection sleeve... heat the ends to have the shrinking tube hold the sleeve in place and you are done.
-
I'm off shore at work right now, other wise I would take a picture, I notched my windshield bracket so it would clear the wires when installed and I could keep them hidden.

I think that's what I would do also, run wires between the bracket to the back and around rear forks,
This is the shortest route, any small wires showing cover in a silver braided sleeving, and notch windshield bracket (make sure to seal notch in primer).
-
I've installed them with the wires running through the bracket to the rear and into the nacelle. I can fit the windshield ok as long as I'm careful not to trap the wire protector sleeve. It doesn't look too bad. At least the wires are not too visible from the front. Pictures show view from the front with and without windshield. I haven't connected the wires yet. Thought I'd gauge opinion first

Yea Bav...we had to avoid the same issue. I didnt want the wires running around the nacelle, so I opted for drilling with the grommet. Placement allows for the windshield to be placed on/off with zero issues. I'll post more pics ASAP.
-
Wachuko, where did you get the caliper mount for your Headwinds revolver spot lights?
-
Windshield issues fixed. The aux bracket kit comes with two spacers for use with certain models of RK. I bought another two (part number HD-6645) so I could use them top and bottom. Gives just enough clearance for the wires to fit in between the windshield and the bracket. Windshield goes on and off very easy now as long as I'm careful not to trap the wires.
All I've got to do now is work out how to wire it all in (not one of my strengths!).

Don't think I'm going to drill a hole at this point just try to route them tidily behind the fork shrouds and see if they bug me too much

Looking good Kingpin. I'm going to try some orange shrink sleeve over mine but it may look worse than the black sleeve supplied.
I've worked out how to connect the turn signals but any help on how to connect the grey lamp wires would be very much appreciated. I have ordered a service manual but it has not arrived yet so I don't have access to a wiring diagram.

The orange shrink sleeve is far too light and looks worse. Back to black I think.
Any advice on the lamp wire connections anyone?

I went with the Kuryakyn 5029 Driving Lights with turn signals. I looked into doing the HD ones and I like those but wanted something a little sportier (to me), wanted it to already have the turn signals, and cost was a factor as well; this was less than half. I wanted the turn signals off the bars and the 3" driving lights are perfect (again, to me). Replaced the standard halogen lights that come with the kit to the LED lights although, the halogens were very nice as well and are actually in the pics below before changing over to the LED lights which are slightly brighter and whiter. Kuryakyn site says these don't fit the 14's but they do perfectly and everything you need comes in the kit. Windshield is not a problem as well. I wired them so that they stay on regardless of brights being on. This was easy to do and required no extra wiring. Eventually I will be adding a grommet to the fork cover to place the wires through for a cleaner look but I'm not bothered by how it is now. Also, the crown bolts that are holding the mounts to the bike are just temporary as the bolts are replaced from the kit and have covers that are black. Super clean.
Take a look:

So I finally finished fitting the auxiliary lights and all the wiring. It's taken a bit longer than it should have done but thanks to jpdchicago for the parts Iist and a proper service manual with wiring diagrams it's been quite straightforward.

The problem I have now (due to either stupidity or naivety or both) is that the aux lights are a bright white light but the standard SERK headlamp is more of a yellow colour. I thought my bike had a daymaker headlamp and that they would match. Do I have to spend another load of cash and change the headlamp or can I just change bulbs? Any advice appreciated.

My $ .02 .... get the headlamp! That mix in colors would personally drive me crazy! Plus the LED headlamp combined with the passing lamps has given me an almost 180 degree spread of light for the dark roads... I love it. Didnt your CVO come with a Daymaker headlamp?? Mine did.... I think its in the specs?
-
UK CVO Road King comes with dual halogen headlight sooooo, you'll have to buy the LED Daymaker to make it match which Will look 100% better or switch the auxiliary lights to halogen.
-
I was trying to avoid the extra expense but I guess I will just have to get the LED Daymaker 7". There appear to be two to choose from any advice as to which is best?

Dave, thread here - http://www.v-twinforum.com/forums/v-twin-forum-general-harley-talk/273385-hd-now-offering-two-daymaker-headlights.html about the differences, the one that has a part number of 73390-10A (new part number 67700243) is shown as $524 (£500 in UK), the part number 67700189, is shown as $399.95. About £324 from Jersey HD, not sure of mainland price. both seem to need an accessory harness to fit, which looks to be about £16, not sure what that does. Both are now ECE approved for use in the UK, the original 73390 wasn't. Let me know how you get on, Rob

Based on what you went with on your auxiliary lights, choose the second pic you have listed. That is the original headlight that comes stock on the US models and will match your auxiliary lights. The top pic is the reflector style and they have different auxiliary lights to match that as well.
-
Just spoke to Jersey HD (Tony), he said 07700243, is not for sale in the UK, only US. So if he is correct, then the reflector will be the only option I guess. Although another dealer told me you could order in the UK. I know this as I was thinking about changing my headlight :)

The plot thickens but based on what db252 has said I don't have a choice really. I wish I'd looked into it more before I bought the aux lights

The Reflector series was to create an "economy" line of the LED headlamps... you will probably see it moving forward for all stock headlamps (the '15 have stock Reflector LED). The higher end unit is brighter and more "powerful" (for lack of a better term). I dont think they are making the passing lamps in the reflector series yet (I may be incorrect on this).
If you cant "buy" it in the UK... there is always Ebay!!!

Bav, give a look at the Silverstar vxe as they have very good reviews. The HD light doesn't get good reviews and don't last. Your bulb should be an H4 or 9003 which is one in the same. Best of luck.
On a side note, I meant to quote your post about the lightbulb. I shouldn't do this on a phone.

Thanks harleychef. I have found a place in the UK where I can buy online for £515 ($800!). I'm going to see if I can secure a good dealer discount before getting one though as I can't justify it to myself at the moment. Just for info the reflector passing lamps are available.

Just spoke to Harley UK, you can not buy anything but the reflector LED in the UK. They also told me that the US version dips differently, so would not be EU compliant, not sure how that works, sounds a bit like bull to me, otherwise there would need to be a another model for the Euro zone who drive on the other side of the road. Probably the glass will not be stamped with the ECE markings. By the way you can now buy reflector side lamps here as well. Having read loads about the difference of both the reflector and the projector, the reflector reviews seem to suggest this light is better for when tight cornering, trying to address the issues others have had with the projector type, although Guess if you have passing lamps they would make up any shortfall, I haven't fitted passing lamps so only have my headlight. Both types have their fans. Will do some more investigating.

It's annoying that I was able to buy the non reflector type aux lights in this country but not the headlamp to match. Oh well you live and learn its all good fun though

If only the MoCo had made the SERK for all countries with the LED Daymaker this wouldn't have happened!!

Not sure the blame is on HD this time. I think there are some odd regs. on headlights in the UK and Europe.
-
Thanks db252. I can only find zXe so assume that's what you meant. They look like a good cheap option so I think I'll give them a try while I save up. I'll post some pics and report on what they are like.

Bav,
Yes, I did mean that bulb. Also look to see if this LED add on would work for you. This might be the cheapest best option.

Bav, there is a 2015 cvo electra glide in HD Beeston (Notts). The pictures show it has Daymaker projector head light, so not sure how they can sell the bike like that if the headlight is not UK compliant. So the plot thickens :) I've just ordered a Daymaker reflector for mine.
-
Hi Rob. Oh yeah, just looked at it online. I can order a projector unit from Chesterfields online site so I think they are obtainable over here. I've ordered an Osram Night Breaker bulb for now just to try it out as it wasn't very expensive. I may order a projector unit later in the year after shopping around for a discount. Let me know what you think of your reflector unit when you have fitted it.

Yes, I was told I could order a Projector from Harley World as well, and also my local dealer quoted me a price. But when they tried to order, it wouldn't give them an order number and came up with "not available in your country". That was when I phoned Harley UK, who said the system would give a price, but not allow the dealers to actually place an order. Harley Jersey told me the same thing and sent me a print out to confirm. In the end, after reading reviews I went for the reflector, so will let you know, what I think

Just found this on eBay. Its a lot cheaper than the H-D one even with international shipping.
Does anyone know if they are any good?

Dave,
Seems pretty good and might be a great choice. I went through the feedback on that vendor in regards to the product and all seemed very positive with only one return that didn't specify why. They do have a return policy so that's something as most electronics from HD or non-returnable. Tried to see if there was more local input about them as I live in CA where they are coming from but not so much. Doesn't mean they aren't a great product. Let us know.
-
Well I bit the bullet and ordered one. I didn't order via eBay and am glad I didn't. When I went on the vendors website they were offering a special deal of a free wiring harness connector and the headlamp was slightly cheaper than on eBay. If it works out to be a good product then I would have saved over £250 ($380) against the H-D equivalent even with the international postage.

My HD Daymaker Reflector arrived this morning. Will fit over the weekend. Dave, need to hook up at some point so I can hear how loud your true duals are :)

Hi Rob, definitely. When the weather gets a bit better and I have put the RK back together we will have to meet up so I can try out my heated grips

Ha heated grips. I've been using Garbing heated gloves for years, they are tops :)

With the lack of wind protection on the 13 SERK, especially with 14 apes, Gerbing Heated gloves are not enough in the 20's. Love the heated grips I added. Also allows in cool weather, not cold to get away with a light weight glove.

A few more pictures...
How do you like the power duals? I've hears some say they drag easily. I say as long as the floorboards touch first it shouldn't be a big deal.

I Love the power duals! I have not been able to drag them, even in tight cornering. The floor boards touch first...
I have true duals on my other bike (a stage 2 - 2003 road king classic) and the power duals feel a lot more powerful with tons of low end torque. Both bikes have monster rounds on them and the monster rounds get tiring on long trips with the true duals. Not with the power duals. I wear ear plugs on any trips over 100 miles anyway, mostly for wind noise. Can still hear and enjoy the pipes.

Been down to -2c in the UK, and have never had my gloves on the full heat setting. But we don't get to the -6c :)

I'm on the fence between, power duals and true duals. Have read loads of posts, where folks say, they see no difference with low end torque with the true duals. Guess my issue is, I like the look of the True duals better. But I don't want loads of noise, have V&H slash cut ovals on the standard headers at the moment.

I can tell you the true duals will be much louder than the power duals with the twin slash ovals. With monster rounds, true duals give me a headache, not the power duals. And while both will have more low end than stock if properly tuned, you will get instant torque with the power duals. Lots of fun on take off at traffic lights...
You can find a lot of posts on line about the difference between the two.
This is just my own experience.
-
Forgot to mention that I wear a 3/4 helmet on the highway for longer rides (usually cruising well over 70mph) With a half helmet on, noise is not a major issue in either case (wind noise takes over). 3/4 and full size helmets multiply the drone effect of loud pipes. Think of your head inside a bell...
Well, now I am totally off topic in this thread.
-
Thanks for your insight :)

You should get a little more torque out of the power duals or a good 2 into 1.

So fitted my Haymaker Reflector today. Really pleased, a lot brighter than the Halogen light we get in the UK. Not quite plug and play though, even with the harness you have to buy. In all bikes except the RK, you just unplug the harness and plug in the new one. On the Road King you have to cut the old plugs off, then splice to the new harness. :) Only a problem in Europe I guess

Where are the pics Rob? My Moto Dynamic unit turned up on Friday. Looks really good quality. I only ordered it on Sunday so it only took 5 days to get here from California which impressed me. Unfortunately I won't have time to fit it for a while due to all the work I have to do on the house but I will post the results as soon as I have it on.

Can anyone show me pics or explain how to complete the electrical connections for the passing lamps? I figured out the turn signals. That was easy. But the electrical connector (white plastic flat 4 pin connector) that connects to the switch harness has me stumped. The schematic shows that it has a gray with black stripe wire that is supposed to connect directly to the single passing lamp wire from each bulb. But that wire is bundled up and runs into the main harness that goes all the way under the tank and seat.
Did you guys simply cut that gray wire and connect the lamp wires to it or did you splice into it with a connector of some sort? Please advise.

Sorry about that, it's a 2013 CVO RK

Yours may be different to my 14 CVO RK but this is what I did.
My handlebar mounted turn signals connected to the main harness by means of two Molex connectors situated to the left of the headstock. The left is a 4 way and the right is a six way. I unplugged these connectors and bought two new connectors to which I connected the new turn signals which are three wires connected to positions 1, 2 and 3.
The single black and gray wire from the auxiliary lights I connected to position 4 on these connectors. I then plugged them into the main harness where I had disconnected the original turn signals and it all worked.
This is because I had been told that although my bike didn't come with the normal RK light set up it was all wired up the same to the switch on the back of the nacelle.
Hope it helps?
Dave

No, mine is different. There is a 6 pin connector for the turn signals. I have that one figured out as I can simply connect the new turn signals into the existing turn signal connector. The passing lamps are supposed to connect to the passing lamp on-off harness via the single gray wire but I'm not sure if I should just tap into it.
-
See attachment for my schematic. Different from yours
-
I figured it out. The gray wire from the flat connector goes into the main harness where it splices to a double gray wire that comes back out. Those two wires are stubbed inside the nacelle so all I had to do was crimp two pins onto the gray wires from the passing lamps and then plug them into the stubbed connector.

thanks again for the help on the electrical connections. so my other conundrum was how to run the harness around the nacelle. I said screw it and drilled two holes into the nacelle, and used grommets to ensure no chafing and then ran the harnesses thru. looks clean and almost (but not quite) like a factory designed method.
so see pics and sorry for posting in the wrong thread, as mines a 2013.

Well I started this thread back in July last year but have finally got around to fitting them to my SERK. I took the opportunity to relocate the handlebar mounted turn signals and also to replace the UK spec headlamp with an LED one. I went for the one made by Moto Dynamic and had it shipped over from the U.S. It still worked out much much cheaper than the H-D unit but looks pretty much the same. Haven't tried it at night yet.

can someone give me some instructions, video or diagram to route wiring to do this mod????
thanks for your time.....

You wrote a post a long time ago back in 2014. This is a long shot, but you listed the parts need to add auxiliary lights to your 2013 Road King CVO. If you happen to remember what housing you used and where you got them I would be very grateful. I have all the other parts, including the 4" LED lamps. Thanks!
