I have one, and I use(d) it.  My finger's not calibrated very well, so I take the guesswork out of it with the tool.

My finger was calibrated; before I cut it off....  :-\

Still don't use the tensioning tool though.  The other finger is getting smarter and smarter all the time.

If you did belt tension checks on a regular basis, you might eventually develop a "feel" for the correct 10 lbs of force.  However, for those of us who might check it once a year at most, I think the force gauge is a good idea.  I find that it's also easier to read the scale on mine rather than try to use the marks on the belt guard or a separate scale held in the other hand.

Now that I think about it a bit more whether I use the tension gauge or the finger both are relatively cursory measures.  Have indelible marker marks on swingarm/axle and always just put it back where it was.  Over the years "tight" has proved to be a very repeatable thing.  These belts don't stretch much.

I set it once and then scripe a line.  I adjust the axle to the line each time - works for me!   :2vrolijk_21:
