Last weekend took a trip to Lake Placid, NY. The site of the 1932 and 1980 winter Olympics. Below is a pic from the top of Whiteface Mtn. Approx 4,900 feet above sea level and that is Lake Placid in the background

Here is another pic of the observatory there. It is built from the granite that they used when digging out the mountain to install an elevator
-
Been to that beautiful area many times... Thanks for the memories with your fantastic pics.

Nice pics. Been there quite a few times. Did you walk up the foot path? Quite a hike to get to the top!

We were smarter than that! Took the elevator up to the observatory and then the foot path DOWN to the lot

This is me in the tunnel walkway leading to the elevator

Great riding destination. Grew up in Albany, brother has boat in Lake George and vacation in Long Lake every summer. Maybe not as epic as some of the western destinations, but definitely some quality riding. Lake Placid is a great town and a friendly place. Skied there in the late 60's and had a great time at the 1980 Olympics. Just enjoy going back. JoeS

Totally agree. 1st time to Lake Placid and we really liked it. Rode up the western side of lake George and Lake Champlain. Came in right past the ski jump area. The Sacandaga lakes are something as well. Thinking about a trip to the finger lake region next and wine country. Ever been there? Any tips?
One more pic with my wife at a stop along Lake Champlain

We were there 3 weeks ago, beautiful place!

One day run thru the Finger Lakes. Also a very nice destination but I don't have too much experience there. Very partial to the Adirondaks, can't wait for autumn, headed to Long Lake in late Sept. JoeS

Joe we want to ride there again when the foliage turns. Typically when does that happen in that area. We were thinking maybe mid Sept?

Nice pics, thanks for sharing :2vrolijk_21:

Not sure where you are in MA, but I would expect the Adirondak area to be about 7 to 10 days ahead. I've seen it close to first week of Oct before---all depends on the weather. JoeS
