Got rear ended
« on: November 16, 2014, 05:16:28 PM »

Coming back off an awesome ride and got rear ended by no one else but my VP. I had just started to pass a bus on a country road and he decided to turn left in front of me. I saw it and started braking but my VP didn't see what was happening until it was too late.. It launched me off the bike. I was able to finish the 200 miles till home but with a sore leg. Could have been worse. Now for the fun part of getting all the damaged parts replaced. Both of us had full coverage and he is taking the blame.

Any bike wreck you not just walk away but ride away from is one an incident with no reason to complain.  Be well, get the kinks out over the next few days, replace some parts and ride on.  I take it your buddy was ok too?

For sure on riding away. He stayed upright the whole time. Yep no complaints. She will be pretty with all new painted parts back on.

For what it's worth.

I typically ride alone. However, I occasionally follow my brother. He rides a 14  street glide with ABS and I'm on a 04 SEEG. I found it important to have more following distance now because of the improved braking on the new bike, plus I suppose even the reduced distance of the lever that is required to engage braking.

I also always wait until the pass is executed before I pass. You just reduce your options and escape routes otherwise.

Glad to hear you rode away and not seriously injured, Skillet. Karma was on your side to pull that off.
Heal up quickly and fix the bike. And thanks for the heads up about following an ABS equipped bike.

Seems like that's happening to everybody these days.  :nervous:  That's life in the rat race.

Glad you weren't hurt badly, and you were able to ride home.  Scary stuff.

Stay safe!

We have both ridden together for over 20 years and we are used to each others actions. Just an unfortunate incident and boy does he feel bad about it.

The insurance paid $18,000.00 for parts and labor. Estimate was going off international prices. For example the front fender in US was $900.00 and in Korea $2300.00 converted. All painted parts except the tank will all be replaced.

Hey Skillet;

It's good to hear you weren't seriously hurt.

I'm surprised they didn't total it at that cost.
