you can run just about any head unit and use your handlebar controls; you've just got to buy the "steering wheel" control module, Schoshe makes a good one. 

I've got that exact Headunit and it is AWESOME!  You can dial in the color to match your guages perfectly plus is has about a million other functions!

Are these head units waterproof, or at least water resistant?

I just installed a dual din in my Murano, a Pioneer AVIC-7200NEX.  I had to use a dash replacement from Metra and I too used the Schoshe SWC module.

I wish we could do a dual din in the '09 to get maps etc.

No on the water proof....i use glad press and seal when its raining....i dont really have to touch the radio or see it when i use my ipod.

Nice and the lids really add some blink, I may do the same set up when I upgrade the sound system.
