Post by: FREBRD on November 06, 2004, 11:29:56 AM
Help for a newbie on what tires to buy for my 2000 serg. I have always run avon venum x on my other bikes and loved them. This is my first touring performance bike ( sounds good) and looking for suggestions.  [smiley=beerchug.gif]

This is kinda personal preference thing and you are going to get lots of suggestions on what tires is best.  That said I run Metzlers and always have and love them, very good wet weather performance, doesn't track pavement grooves, and is a load range C tire.  hope this is of help with your decission.

I replaced the front and rear on my Glide last Fall at about 5500 miles with Goodyear replacements. I think the next ones will be Avon or Metzler.  I understand that they are a little stickier and will last longer.

Yes AK & JC are right mileage is not as good.  Replaced the Dunlop at 12,000 and the aveage I have been getting on Metzlers is 9,000-10,000 but don't mind because I like to know that the will stick in the corners and not lock up in the rain (real problem with the rear brake in the rain).

My rear dunlop needed replacing at 9000 miles and I have gotten about the same from the metzelers ME 880's in the past but they definately give improved handling especially in the rain!!! [smiley=blush.gif]

I think the trade off would be worth it to me.

In the rain if you looked at the rear brake pedal it would lock up.  Seriously though about the only time I us the rear brake is in the rain and no matter how gentle I was with the rear it would lock up. When I changed to the metzlers the problem went away in fact its hard to get the rear to lock up now.
