Interesting Denver Post Article

Denver Post: This text is from a county emergency manager in the central part of Colorado after todays snowstorm.

WEATHER BULLETIN

Up here, in the Northern Plains, we just recovered from a Historic event--- may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow, and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked   down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed all roads, isolated scores of communities, and cut power to 10's of thousands.

FYI:
George Bush did not come.
FEMA did nothing.
No one howled for or blamed the government.
No one even uttered an expletive on TV .
Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit.
Our Mayor did not blame Bush or anyone else.
Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else, either.
CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC did not visit - or report on this category 5 snowstorm. Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards.
No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House.
No one looted.
Nobody - I mean Nobody, demanded the government do something.
Nobody expected the government to do anything, either.
No Larry King, No Bill O'Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathew and No Geraldo Rivera.
No Shaun Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Hollywood types to be found.
Nope, we just melted the snow for water.
Sent out caravans of SUV's to pluck people out of the snow engulfed cars.
The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks, and didn't ask for a penny.
Local restaurants made food, and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snowbound families.
Families took in the stranded people - total strangers.
We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns, or Coleman lanterns.
We put on extra layers of clothes, because up here it's "Work or Die".
We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for "sit at home" checks.
Even though a Category "5" blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early, we know it can happen, and how to deal with it ourselves.
"In my many travels, I have noticed that once anyone gets north of about 48 degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world's social problems evaporate."
It does seem that way, at least to me.
I hope this gets passed on.
Maybe SOME people will get the message.
The world does not owe you a living.

My friend MJZ, I grew up in rural prairies in Northern Saskatchewan.  You cannot see your neighbors, but when the weather is bad, you find a way to check on one another.  If someone needs water or food, it is provided.  If someone needs clothes or a ride to town, it is provided.  If someone needs a hand getting through the snow banks to feed helpless animals, it gets provided.  All that is needed is always provided.  Not to show off, not for money or greed, not for anything but being a friend and a good neighbor.  We helped and have been helped at different times over the years, and when you see the helper or the helped in town, you stop and chat a moment.  Ask about the family and the farm.  Laugh, cheer, cry and pray that all is OK with these neighbors.  In crisis situations, no one makes a wasted trip without asking around the corner if they need something too.  One neighbor may pick up groceries of ten or more families, we pick up each other's mail and don't worry about identify theft.  If the husband is out of town, someone makes sure the neighbor's kids and wives make it home safe and that everyone has light and heat.  Yes, things are a bit different in the country.  When you live where you can die by making a wrong turn or do not put up enough provisions, things are a bit different.

Now that's just funny. [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]  Didn't think the mountains of Colorado were the plains.  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  But then I'm one of those guys from out west that think the mid west states should be some where in the mid west, instead of the eastern half of the country........at least west of the Mississippi. Even if the article is "stretched" a bit, I know that when things get bad and people need help I wouldn't want to live in any other country in the world. No where are people more generous or helpful when someone is in need. If it's opening one's house, refrigerator or wallet the people in this country are always there for each other. Yes we're not perfect but this is one great place to live.

Damn, they got me again. I've got to remember to check snopes before I pass on e-mails. BUT having lived in Colorado, Florida, Tennessee and Texas I can tell you FEMA has done one hell of a job at one thing; teaching the least productive elements of society to lie, cheat and steal to get their unjust rewards. Hell FEMA paid out millions in counties of Florida that had no damage at all. In fact Bestbuy had a record month when those checks went out, they ran out of plazma and had to bring in truckloads of big screen TV's from a bunch of other Bestbuy stores. And you don't want to know how many cars were bought within weeks of FEMA issuing checks. Point is the current administration is so afraid of whinning socialist national news agencies that they simply give money out to everyone in hopes some of it gets in the hands of the legitamate claimants. The liberals, with their complete control of the press, have done such a great job of protraying the current adminstration as the uncaring evil empire that they would rather throw away a few billion than let CNN broadcast bullchit stories about the mistreated poor.
OK got that off my mind. [smiley=soapbox.gif], I'm good now. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
